Why take a family holiday in the Lake District?
We highly recommend finding family hotels in the Lake District. The Lake District is a wonderful destination for family holidays, whether you are planning to explore the quaint towns and villages in the Lake District, enjoy decadent British food, or explore the rolling hills of the Lake District. We highly recommend this destination for a family holiday. The Lake District is great for kids of any age. If you’re traveling with adventurous and energetic teenagers, there are plenty of options for outdoor activities. Don’t miss Keswick Adventures for their creative and fun outdooor pursuits – perfect for active teens. Alternatively, if you’re traveling with younger kids, inspire their imagination with the landscape that inspired Beatrix Potter.
The Lake District is understandably one of the most popular destinations in the United Kingdom. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage. At times, it can be busy, and it can feel difficult to escape the crowds. The popularity of this area can also make accommodation more challenging to book. However, with the increased popularity of the Lake District, there is a wider range of options. Whether you’re looking to explore a town with a tasty ice cream, enjoy cake in a traditional English tea room, or sample the best of British food in a gourmet restaurant, the Lake District has something for everyone.
The Lake District is also one of the more expensive areas to visit in the UK. However, it is still possible to travel here on a budget. If you are traveling on a tight budget, we recommend planning your food in advance and looking for self-catered properties. Go shopping in one of the cheapest supermarkets before you visit and stock up for your trip. It is also possible to travel around the Lake District using public transport, and this may save a little bit of money too.
TOP TIPS for booking family hotels in the Lake District
Here are a few top tips for booking family hotels in the Lake District. Firstly, we highly recommend booking your hotel as early as possible. Even if you are unsure of your travel date, you can still book hotels with free cancellation policies, which allow you to cancel your booking up until close to your date of stay without incurring any charges. It is a great idea to book your hotel for your approximate travel date and then cancel if you are unable to make it.
It is also important to be aware that the Lake District gets particularly busy during the British summer holiday months of July and August, as well as other school holiday months. If you have flexibility, we highly recommend visiting the Lake District in June or September. During these months, the weather is lovely, but it is not quite the peak season.
If you’re traveling to the Lake District on a budget and find the prices too high, we recommend traveling in the low season. You can also contact properties directly to see if you can arrange a deal on your accommodation.
It is also important to make sure that the hotel meets your needs as a family. Consider your sleeping arrangements. If you’re traveling with a baby, it is important to recognize that not every hotel offers cots. However, some of the hotels in this article do offer a free cot if you’re traveling with a baby; just make sure you check this in advance.
We also recommend planning your meals in advance. A cheap and tasty way to eat in the Lake District is to use local bakeries. If you’re looking for a tasty and convenient way to eat, then some of the hotels that we recommend in this article do have an on-site restaurant; however, this is more likely to be expensive. A mid-range option for food in the Lake District is to eat in local pubs. Many British pubs have a wonderful menu of traditional British dishes for reasonable prices – this is also a great way to experience British culture.
1 Royal Oak Hotel
Price Range: £160 – £175
The Royal Oak Hotel is one of the cheapest family hotels in the Lake District. This beautiful home has the atmosphere and ambiance over a cozy English Country Cottage. We absolutely love the cozy, welcoming style of this beautiful little property. In our opinion, this hotel is fantastic value for money. We’ve picked it as one of the best value-for-money family hotels in the Lake District due to the quadruple room, which has two bunk beds and generally costs between £160 per night to £170 per night.
In our opinion, the quadruple room is excellent, especially for a larger family with older kids. We don’t recommend bunk bed rooms for families with toddlers, for obvious reasons.
The bunk bed quadruple room also includes a kettle, tea and coffee facilities, and an ensuite bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower. We also highly recommend the deluxe Family Suite, which can accommodate up to four people with a double bed and two single beds. This typically costs between £180 to £200 per night.
Rooms also include a superb cooked English breakfast as standard. If you book on booking.com or Agoda, you can also get excellent free cancellation policies. Scafell Cottage has a beautiful location in the remote hills in the west of the Lake District, not too far from West Water. This hotel is not a great option for larger families, as the maximum capacity is 3. In our opinion, this hotel is also on the pricey side, but you are paying for location, character, charm, and style here.
