There are also not many options if you are looking at the very high end range. Malacca does not have many five-star hotels or big hotel brand names. Therefore, most of the hotels in Malacca are in the mid-range.
If you are looking for small boutique hotels in the mid-range Malacca has a lot to offer.
Secondly, be aware that Malacca has a hotel City tax. Some hotels include the city tax in the hotel rates whereas other Hotels May add this on. The exact amount depends on the hotel. This is one of the most expensive hotels in Malacca. And they certainly deliver. Whether it is impeccable hospitality, spacious and modern suites or the fun of an outdoor swimming pool – the DoubleTree at Malacca has it all.

This luxurious 5 star hotel also has a fitness center, bar, restaurant, room service and more. Consistent with the DoubleTree brand, this hotel also has a wide range of rooms and suites to choose from so there really is something to meet everyone’s needs.
At the cheaper end you can take twin and double rooms. Pay a little more for a higher floor and more impressive view. The more expensive suites have more space and include additional perks such as impressive bathtubs with views. The main disadvantage of the DoubleTree in Malacca is that children are not allowed at this property.
The DoubleTree is located by the seafront – which is fantastic for scenery. However, it is a few kilometers from the Malacca old town.

The Majestic Malacca Hotel is a boutique heritage hotel. If you are looking for a Malacca hotel with colonial style, character and charm then this is THE BEST option for you. This mansion dates back to the 1920’s and celebrates the unique history and fusion of cultures in Malaysia.
The Majestic Malacca Hotel really is superlative in many respects. We love the use of antique furnishings and artwork. Rooms and common areas have a rich, luxurious and regal ambiance. The suites are beautifully designed with floor-to-ceiling windows, timber floors and teak bed frames.
They also have an en suite bathroom, separated by wooden sliding doors and feature a top bath and luxury bath amenities. The Majestic Malacca hotel also has a spa offering a range of treatments including Peranakan inspired treatments. AND they even have an outdoor swimming pool for a refreshing dip.
The restaurant offers high quality local dishes so that you can experience the best versions of the celebrated cuisine of Malacca. The Majestic Malacca Hotel is situated on the edge of the Malacca old town and right next to the river. It is a short walk from many of the attractions of Malacca. Overall we would highly recommend this hotel. It is on the more expensive side, but the Majestic Malacca hotel offers a very memorable and luxurious stay and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Malacca.
3 Gingerflower Boutique Hotel
The ginger flower Boutique Hotel is a stylish Asia-zen minimalist hotel that offers a cool, calm and peaceful sanctuary right in the center of the Malacca bustle. Nearby you can find coffee shops, restaurants and street food easily available. The interior style is a mixture of whitewashed walls with flowers, Asian patterns and wood. We love the Simplicity and elegance of this beautiful property.
Rooms are well equipped with air conditioning, flat screen TV, mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities and a safe. Another thing that we love about the ginger flower Boutique Hotel is the excellent cancellation policy. This hotel generally allows free cancellation until close to your check-in date, a very useful feature in these uncertain times.
However always check the terms and conditions when you actually book. The ginger flower Boutique Hotel is also a very good option for families. They are able to include an extra bed for RM30 per night (for children between 0-12 years old) and RM50 per night (children 13 years and older).
It is also worth mentioning the impressive exclusive Suite available at the ginger Boutique Hotel. The exclusive Suite typically costs around £300 per night and can sleep up to 10 people. The exclusive Suite has three bedrooms each room with an extra large double bed and two of the bedrooms have an additional sofa bed.
4 Baba House Melaka – (The Best heritage hotel in Malacca)
If you are visiting Malacca to immerse yourself in the culture and history, then consider staying at the Baba house. The Baba house is a very stylish Heritage Hotel in Malacca. The Baba house is a celebration of the rich vibrant Peranakan history, unique to malaysia.
This hotel feels like a tourist attraction in itself, the type of place that you would come to visit for some amazing photography and experiences. However, the Baba House offers accommodation with decadent hospitality, luxury and comfort. The Baba House utilizes bright vibrant colors and intricate geometric patterns characteristic of Peranakan art and architecture.
We love the use of beautiful pastel blue on the outside of this building and the classical Chinese central courtyard design. The rich heritage theme runs throughout the entire property. Rooms are pristine and stylish, each room with its own unique character and ambiance.
Another cute little touch at the Baba House Hotel in Malacca is the rooftop tanning pools. Relax on the rooftop with a refreshing drink and dip your feet whilst you enjoy the warm Malacca weather. The Baba house is excellently located in the Malacca Old Town right next to jonker street.
Nearby you can find coffee shops, restaurants and street food readily available. The Baba house Malacca is absolutely superlative. For a hotel of this caliber and style the Baba house is excellent value for money with rooms ranging in price between £50 and £130 per night. Keep an eye out for deals at the Baba House.
5 JonkeRED Heritage Hotel
The JonkeRED Heritage Hotel is as cool as it gets. This stylish property is excellently situated right in the center of Malacca old town right next to the river and around a minutes walk from Jonker Street. Nearby you can find shops, convenience stores, restaurants, coffee shops and more. Watch out for deals on Agoda.
The JonkeRED utilizes a stylish industrial theme whilst the comfortable furniture and beds gives this hotel a cozy feel. It is also GREAT value for money costing only around £40 – £50 per night. Rooms are comfortable, well furnished and are all en suite with air conditioning.
Rooms have large windows and lots of natural light. The JonkeRED only offer twin or double rooms and have no capacity for cots or extra beds. This hotel would be a great option for a couple traveling on a mid-range budget.
6 The Nest House
The Nest House is a clean, simple and innovative hotel in Malacca. Rooms at the Nest House are clean, light, spacious and well designed. The interior design theme is eclectic with a hint of industrial influence. Rooms have large windows affording plenty of natural light – and they also have blackout blinds.
All rooms are ensuite and they include a ceiling fan and air conditioning. If you’re looking for a hotel in Malacca for an amazing night’s rest BUT not too expensive – The Nest House is a great choice. The Nest House also includes free parking, a lounge area and garden area. Reserve the Nest House early if you can.
There are no restaurants on site – however there are plenty of restaurants and local food near the property. The Nest House is in a good location – around 1km from the Malacca old town (roughly 10 minutes walk). The Nest House is also a good option for families. Children of any age are welcome at the property and they can include an extra bed for an additional charge of RM60 (around £12 or $15).
7 Terra Nova Hotel
OK, let’s be honest. This is not the most stylish hotel in town! The salmon pink interiors and tile floors are not the most inspiring interiors that we have seen. However, the Terra Nova is a very good value for money compared to other hotels in malacca. Reserve Terra Nova on Agoda.
This hotel is clean, well kept and offers very good customer service. We have recommended the Terra Nova because it offers a very good value for money and can also accommodate families. The Terra Nova is a clean and simple Hotel which offers double rooms, twin rooms and family rooms. The family room can accommodate up to three guests with one large double bed and one single bed.
They can also throw in an additional bed for RM60 per night. The Terra Nova hotel is located near the seafront and is a short walk from the Malacca old town. Overall this is a very good hotel in Malacca – especially when you consider the price.
8 Travellers Diary Guest House
We mentioned that there are not many budget hotels in Malacca. So if you are traveling Malaysia on a budget, you won’t have many options to choose from in malacca. The best budget hotel in Malacca is The Travelers Diary guest house. Reserve Travellers Diary on Agoda.
This guest house is clean, simple and accommodating. It is also excellently located in the center of Malacca Old Town very close to the Malacca river. The Travellers Diary also has a family room with a double bed and a single bed.
This is very impressive for the price (around £20 per night). They also include breakfast at this hotel – this is pretty unique for a budget hotel at this price range.

This question is of course subjective and it depends exactly what you are looking for. If you are looking for a luxury stay in a five-star hotel, the best choice in Malacca is the DoubleTree by hilton. Alternatively, if you are looking for a beautiful Heritage Hotel we highly recommend the Baba house and also the Majestic Malacca Hotel (although this one is a bit more expensive). If you are traveling with kids and looking for a relatively cheap place to stay in Malacca then check out the Terra Nova Hotel. If you are traveling on a budget the best option (and maybe only option) is the Travelers Diary Guest House.
