Who are the Backpacking Family?
Hi, we are Pete, Emma, Hudson, Darien and Florence
We are a Loved-up family who set off across the world to spread love and live a life that leads to spending more time together as a family, lots of Adventures and life long learning. The reality is a lot fun, giggles and mishaps!
We only travel with what we can carry on our backs, which after 3 tots, isn’t a lot!
Less is More
We choose to put experiences above possessions and do what we can to serve and live eco as we go – We are by no stretch of the imagination perfect at this, but we always do our best to be better.
Over the past 15 years we have travelled solo, as a couple and now as a family, every season is epically special in it’s own way! Since our family began to grow we adore and prioritise time together as a family, but also get giddy about the world around us and love to explore and learn as a family!
Our background
We are from the UK and grew up loving adventure in the wild. We have travelled MANY years – as solo backpackers, as a couple and now we travel as a family. As solo backpackers we learned to squeeze every penny so we could travel further and experience more of the world. You will find some of our savvy budget tips on our site.
We also both trained as teachers in the UK and have taught in secondary schools (11 – 18 years old) in the UK and overseas.

Emma holds a degree in Design and a PGCE in design technology. Emma runs the Backpacking Family youtube Join us on our adventures and get inspired.
We have now transitioned into FULL TIME backpacking and travel as a family. Our home is each other and our backpacks are stuffed with clothes, nappies and of course plenty of books for our boys! Pete is the science geek and Emma loves design, tech, art and photography. We now use out experience as teacher to worldschool out own kids as we travel. And we use our teaching work ethic to share our adventures with you.
What our social media is about
We’re pretty sociable! We love the family travel community and would love to meet you in person, but YouTube and Instagram are great places to find us too. Our Social Media is where you can really jump into our Adventurous with us and get up close and personal as we travel across the world as a family. It’s where we share all our travel stories as a family, so it is pretty personal. We do share the highlights with the hope to inspire you, but we also share the tricky bits and mishaps because we always want to keep it real with you.

Our You Tube is the best way we can really show you what day to day life is like as a family who travels with tiny tots. We love to share who we are and what is important to us as a family whilst taking you round the world on our travel adventures with us.

We LOVE photography and we also love to share our more honest candid moments, so Instagram is our happy place!
We love the art of photography and anyone with kids knows that it gets a whole lot harder with little ones in the mix! Our main feed is full of our best shots of family travel. Our Instagram Story, WELL, that is where we share all the uncut, unpolished, candid moments with you.

You will quickly realise that the website is all about YOU! It’s not a typical blog. We keep the more fun personal stuff to social media, so that the website can be totally info packed and focused on equipping you to travel with your families.
This website is for families who LOVE to Travel! We believe that getting out of your comfort zone and making time to travel is one of the best ways you can learn and grow as a family, it has certainly helped us grow closer than we could have ever imagined! BUT sometimes the hardest part is just getting it planned!
We are developing this website to be packed full of practical info, easy to read advice totally focused on helping and equipping you! We will be sharing from our own travel experience AND we also research hard AND we are well connected with loads of other epic travel families. This way we feel like we can truly give you the best information and tips to get you ready to travel with your families.
