To make this article as helpful as possible, we have split it into three sections. We hope that this structure helps you figure out the best option for your own Wadi Rum Adventures.

Firstly, we’re going to share the best Wadi Rum desert camps for unique luxury accommodation. If you are hoping to visit Wadi Rum to stay in some unique and beautiful glamping accommodation in the desert, then this is the section for you. There really are some dreamy camps and you will be surprised how far your money goes here.

Secondly, we will share a section on Wadi Rum desert camps which offer the best day and night tour packages. These packages include adventurous tours and accommodation. The tours may be by jeep, trekking, or camel (or a combination). The accommodation may involve one or a number of nights camping, including tents and, in some cases, wild camping. Each itinerary is unique, and each Wadi Rum desert camp offers something different.

And finally, in the third section, we are going to share the best Wadi Rum desert camps for tours only. It is still possible to book accommodation at these camps as well, but they don’t offer packages. It is possible to book your accommodation somewhere else and do the tour with these camps.

A quick disclaimer before you read on: We have tried to give you an idea of the latest prices for tours and accommodations at each camp. Please be aware that prices can change, so it is essential to check before you book. We also strongly recommend that you check exactly what is included in your tour or accommodation before you book.

How much does it cost to enter Wad Rum?

The Wadi Rum desert camps that we feature in this article do not cover entry permits to Wadi Rum. Therefore, you will need to budget for your entry permit, which costs 5JOD. The good news is that entry to Wadi Rum is included with your Jordan pass, so if you are traveling using a Jordan pass, you don’t need to worry about purchasing an entry permit.

It is important to recognize that foreigners and tourists are not allowed to drive around Wadi Rum. The only people who are authorized to drive in the area are the local Bedouin guides. This enables them to make a living and also contributes to the protection of this beautiful area.

When you are traveling to Wadi Rum, you will need to be dropped off in Wadi Rum Village.

From here, you can purchase your entry permit. In most cases, Wadi Rum desert camps include transfer from the village. It is important to communicate with them about your arrival time and location. Always check that this is included in the cost of your tour.

Why stay in a Wadi Rum desert camp?

sand dune desert

For many people, staying in Wadi Rum desert camps is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This beautiful area is reminiscent of Mars, with its red iron oxide rocks and arid landscape. Wadi Rum is an amazing place for sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing. It is also a wonderful place to connect with a very unique and ancient culture. Many of the Wadi Rum desert camps include local food, local tea, and they may also include entertainment such as singing and local dance.

If you are adventurous, many of the Wadi Rum desert camps offer camel riding and sandboarding tours. If you love photography, you will find this area ridiculously photogenic. Don’t forget to bring a spare memory card. So, whether you are looking for a unique Intrepid Adventure or you just want to slow down and relax in one of the most beautiful desert glamping sites in the world, Wadi Rum really does have something for everyone.

What destinations should a Wadi Rum tour include?

Before you book your Wadi Rum tour, we recommend checking exactly what is included. A full-day tour is likely to include all or most of the following destinations. On the other hand, half-day tours and shorter tours may just include a selection of highlights from this list:

  • The first-century Nabatean Temple
  • Lawrence Spring
  • Red Sand Dune
  • Khazali Canyon inscriptions
  • Burrah Canyon
  • Little Rock Bridge
  • Lawrence House
  • Mushroom Rock
  • Abu Khasaba Canyon
  • Um Frouth Rock Bridge
  • White desert
  • Sunset point

If there is a specific attraction that you are really hoping to see, make sure that it is listed on your tour itinerary. We also recommend that you speak to your guide at the start of the tour to make sure that they will include your desired destinations.

What other things are included with a Wadi Rum tour?

If you are booking accommodation-only options, they may still include transfer to the camp for you and your luggage. They may also include additional meals like breakfast. Check what is included when you book. If you are booking a tour, they should include the following things, BUT as ever, double-check when you book:

  • Meals (A great way to experience traditional Bedouin food. Remember to let them know if you have any special dietary requirements)
  • Transfer for guests & baggage to and from Wadi Rum Town (Check this is included and also agree on pick-up times and locations before you arrive)
  • Transportation around Wadi Rum (this may be a combination of jeep, camel, and guided trekking)
  • English speaking Bedouin Guide
  • Water & tea
  • Activities – hiking (some also include sandboarding – may charge extra for this)

In many cases, Wadi Rum tours are customizable. This means that you can speak to your tour provider and ask if they can add any extra activities (e.g., stargazing, camel riding, or sandboarding). There is likely to be a charge for this, so it is worth checking before you book.

Some very important things to know before you book your trip to Wadi Rum

Camel close up

Please read the section carefully to avoid making mistakes and help you book the correct option for you.

  • There are literally hundreds of Wadi Rum Desert Camps. Lots of camps in Wadi Rum have similar names – can be confusing – use our links to get the right camp.
  • You can normally get discounts for booking as a larger group. So if you’re traveling with others, make sure you book together.
  • Some tours may have a minimum number of people for booking.
  • Remember you are not booking a private tour unless this is specified. Tours are likely to be shared (filled jeeps where possible).
  • In many cases, kids under 12 years old are half price. As ever, check before you book! Kids 0 – 2 are normally free.
  • If you want to book a tour and accommodation package, make sure you check exactly what type of accommodation is included. They will generally offer the cheapest accommodation options, so don’t expect a luxury yurt. If you are looking for a more luxurious option, you may be able to work out a deal with your camp.
  • AND finally, this is very important: make sure that your travel insurance covers all of the activities that you will be doing on your tour. For example, some travel insurance policies will not cover activities like sandboarding and camel riding. If this is on your itinerary, you will be doing this at your own risk.

TOP TIP: If you are a Solo Traveler, you may struggle to book package tours in Wadi Rum. Some places have a minimum of two people for booking. In some cases, you may be charged a lot more if you book a tour as a Solo Traveler. A great way to get around this is to find a travel buddy on one of the Jordan tourist Facebook groups. There are several active Facebook groups, and you can regularly see people posting for travel buddies. This is a great way to keep your travel costs down in this area and also make friends along the way.

2 The BEST Wadi Rum Desert Camps for day & night tour packages

In this section, we are going to share the 5 best Wadi Rum desert camps for tour and accommodation packages. Each of these desert camps offers unique, creative, and intrepid day tours plus accommodation at their camp or even under the stars. It is important to carefully check exactly what accommodation is included with your tour. In many cases, the day and night packages only offer basic tents with minimal facilities and amenities. If you are looking for a more luxurious glamping experience, we recommend contacting your camp or checking out some of the beautiful options in the first section of this article.

Wadi Rum Desert Heart Camp

Best Value for Money, Specializing in Long & Intrepid Tours

Wadi Rum Desert Heart Camp jeep

Wadi Rum Desert Heart Camp offers some of the best value for money when it comes to tour and accommodation packages. We are particularly impressed with their longer Intrepid itineraries. So if you have the time and you’re looking for a very thorough and immersive tour, we highly recommend Wadi Rum Desert Heart Camp. They offer a 3-day & 3-night Camel & Jeep tour for 100 JOD per person, including accommodation (this is around £100 or $120). If this isn’t impressive enough for you, they even reduce the price if you book as part of a larger group. When you look at the options in the area, this is amazing value for money, averaging just over 30 JOD per day, including accommodation and food. They also offer a few different adaptations of this tour, including camel trekking options and guided trekking.

You can also book accommodation at Desert Heart on booking.com

Jamal Rum Camp

Amazing Value for Money, Short and High-Impact Packages with Complimentary Perks

Jamal Rum Camp

If you are short of time and you’re looking for an affordable option, then we highly recommend the Jamal Rum Camp. They offer a very unique and affordable 4-hour Jeep tour with dinner, a night of accommodation (in the Panorama Tent), breakfast, and a sunrise camel ride. All of this only costs 55 JOD per night (around £55 or $70). If you have been reading this article carefully, you will notice that this inclusive price is significantly less than an accommodation-only option at any of the other camps in Wadi Rum. They can also take you stargazing for an additional 20 JOD per person. So you can see why we have included this as the best value for money option in Wadi Rum (Note: these prices are based on two people booking. If you’re flying solo, we recommend negotiating for a similar price).

Wadi Rum Quiet Village Camp

Great Range of Adaptable Tours & Packages, Very Good for Couples and Groups

Wadi Rum Quiet Village Camp

If you are looking for another camp that offers amazing value for money with its tour & accommodation packages, then we highly recommend the stunning Wadi Rum Quiet Village Camp. We are impressed with the range of adaptable tours that this camp offers. They offer a range of tours to meet everyone’s needs. For example, you can take day tours without accommodation. The full day Jeep & lunch costs 50 JOD per person (based on 2-3 people booking). You can add sunrise or sunset camel treks for 20 JOD per person.

The full day Jeep tour and 1-night accommodation cost 60 JOD (based on 2 people). This price also includes sandboarding (some places charge extra to include this). So if you want to experience sandboarding, Rum Quiet Village accommodation & tour package is a great option. It is worth noting that the prices do increase a lot for solo travelers (e.g., 85 JOD for a full day tour and no accommodation). Wadi Rum Quiet Village is not a great option for a solo traveler.

You can book accommodation at Quiet Village on Agoda. You can also find Quiet Village on Booking.com.

Wadi Rum Desert Adventures

Great Option for Day Tours & Glamping Packages

sunset desert

If you’re looking for a reputable tour company in Wadi Rum, then check out Wadi Rum Desert Adventures. This company is particularly good for couples and groups; however, we don’t recommend it for solo travelers. They have a two-person minimum booking requirement. This company offers a nice range of tour package options, and the tours are relatively accessible with several small treks. The prices for the packages are reasonably good, although they are not the cheapest tours around.

For example, a full day Jeep tour (no accommodation) costs 50 JOD per person. A full day Jeep tour & one night normal tent costs 65 JOD per person, wild camp 80 JOD per person, and a deluxe tent 90 JOD per person. It is unique for companies in this area to offer packages with more luxurious camping options, so if you’re looking for a tour and a little glamping, Wadi Rum Desert Adventures is a great option.
