Mirai Tower in brief

Mirai Tower (also known as Chubu Electric Power Tower or the Nagoya TV Tower) is situated at the center of the Cosmopolitan Promenade in the Sakae District of Nagoya City. It is a central hub in Nagoya City, surrounded by shops, cafes, and restaurants. The tower has a viewing deck which is open to the public, and you can also get plenty of excellent views of the tower from the paths and grass lawns in Hisaya Odori Park. Early evening is a particularly nice time to visit this area.

What is the best way to get to Mirai Tower?

The best way to get to the Mirai Tower is to take a subway. You need to get off at the Sakae Station (on the Meijo loop line). The Nagoya Subway is relatively cheap, with prices typically ranging between 200 yen and 350 yen. It can feel a little scary and confusing taking a subway in an unfamiliar country; however, the Japan subway system is relatively user-friendly.

All you need to do is show up at a subway station and find a self-service ticket vending machine. Above the vending machine, you will see a map including the prices for different fare zones. Look for Sakae Station on the map to work out how much you need to pay. All you need to do is select the correct fare on the machine, pay the correct amount, and it will dispense a ticket which you can use to go through the gate.

The Meijo line in Nagoya is a loop line, so you can technically go either way, but we recommend you take a moment to work out the quickest direction. When you arrive at Sakae Station, the subway station exit leads straight into a large underground shopping district (this can be a little disorientating). Exit 31 and 32 bring you out close to the tower.

What can you do at Mirai Tower?

The main thing to do at the tower is to visit the Sky Balcony, which is around 100m high. From here, you can get a nice view of the city, but not overwhelming. You can see the promenade, the Sakae area, and Nagoya Castle to the north. The observation deck admission fee is 1,300 yen for an adult (this is approximately £6 or $8). It costs 800 yen for a child (this is approximately £4 or $5). Children include elementary and junior high school students (which is up to 15 years old in Japan). Preschool kids are free.

The observation deck is open daily from 10 am to 9 pm. The best time to visit is early in the evening just before it gets dark.
