Why visit Pub Street in Siem Reap?

If you haven’t seen Pub Street, you haven’t seen Siem Reap. Pub Street may not be the most cultural activity; however, it is the central tourist hub in Siem Reap, and it is a lot of fun. As a central tourist hub, there are a lot of things to see and do in the area. There are lots of bars, restaurants, and cafes in the area, so there is a wide range of food and drink to choose from. There are also a couple of tour operators in the area where you can book tours, trips, and bus tickets. If you are looking for accommodation in Siem Reap, then we highly recommend you find a place that is a short walk from Pub Street.
TOP TIP: Tourist hubs may be the kind of place you like to avoid. But they do have their advantages. You will find most things that you need as a traveler in the Pub Street area.

Things to do around Pub Street

- Visit the old market (just next to Pub Street – fruit market in the morning & night market section in the evening).
- Try a fish spa ($1 – $2 to try a fish spa, plenty around Pub Street).
- Eat insects or a snake (You may see locals selling insects & snakes to eat!).
- Try a crocodile burger (Some restaurants in the area sell a crocodile burger! If you want to try Crocodile check out El Toro Restaurant along the main Pub Street)
- Watch a free cultural performance (Check out the Khmer Dance performance – Temple Bar 7.30 pm).
- Get a cheap cocktail (You can still find cheap deals on cocktails e.g., $3 and buy one get one free).
- Dance the night away (There are several clubs in the area. Temple is a great place to dance).
- Try some traditional Cambodian food (Many restaurants around here serve tasty Cambodian Dishes like Amok and Beef Lok lak).
- Get a massage (Relax with a neck and shoulder massage or a foot massage, normally $2 – $5).
- Try some street food (there is some tasty street food along the north side of the Old Market near Pub Street).

Things to know before you visit Pub Street

Here are a few important things to know before you visit pub street:
- Make sure that you take time to explore some of the small side streets around the Pub Street area. These side streets tend to be a little bit quieter, and they also have some very nice bars, cafes, and restaurants.
- It is free of charge to visit Pub Street, and you can visit this area any time of the day; however, the evening is the best time to visit.
- Pub Street is a very popular area, and it can get particularly crowded in the evenings. Always take care of your belongings.
- If you are traveling on a budget, we do not recommend eating on Pub Street. If you walk away from Pub Street, you can generally find cheaper and more local places. There are a lot of nice cheap food places down Sok San Road and around the old market.
- Pub Street attracts a lot of street kids and beggars. In some cases, kids are part of organized begging circles, and some kids may have also been trafficked to beg in Siem Reap (find out more about Ethical Volunteering in Siem Reap)
When is the best time of day to visit Pub Street?

Pub Street is relatively quiet during the day, and some of the bars and restaurants do not open until lunchtime or during the afternoon. Pub Street generally remains fairly quiet until 5 pm. From this time, Pub Street starts to get more busy and crowded; the restaurants and bars fill up, and the area has a good atmosphere.

You may be wondering whether it’s worth visiting Temple Bar on Pub Street – maybe for a drink and a dance but not for food. Sadly Temple (Pub Street) has gone downhill in recent years. If you love Temple then head to the new Temple Design Bar (run by the same company).

This is based on Sok San Road. This restaurant is much better than Temple on Pub Street. They have stone-baked pizzas, pasta & burgers. Watch out for special deals.
