Sadly, there are many bike accidents on Koh Phangan, and too many of them result in fatalities. Wearing a helmet is often the difference between life or death.
• Watch out for rain; the roads in Koh Phangan can be quite treacherous, especially in stormy and rainy weather. Watch out for slippery muddy sections; cars can also be more of a risk to motorcyclists during stormy weather.
• Watch out for sand on the road; this can make the surface of the road surprisingly slippery, especially if you are taking a corner. Some areas of Koh Phangan are particularly bad for sandy roads.
• Go carefully on the hills; there are some big hills around Koh Phangan. There are some very steep hills around Chaloklum, Haad Yao, Haad Salad, and Haad Rin bay.
