The building itself has a beautiful white colonial exterior. And it also has an outdoor swimming pool with an ocean view. The internal design of the eastern and oriental hotel is absolutely splendid. Rooms are tastefully decorated with regal art and design. The furniture is extremely comfortable and luxurious.

We absolutely love the food at the eastern and oriental. Don’t miss the incredible Sarkies buffet dinner. This incredible eat all you can buffet has a very wide range of food including fresh seafood and a fusion of asian food and western food.

The Eastern and Oriental Hotel really delivers all of the charm and character that you would hope for in the best Penang Heritage hotels. The eastern and oriental is also one of the most expensive Penang heritage hotels.

Cheong Fatt Tze- The Blue Mansion

TOP PICK Penang heritage hotels for notability and status

If you are looking for Penang Heritage hotels with status, then you will definitely want to check out the famous Blue Mansion (also known as the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion). The Blue mansion is a tourist attraction in its own right, a popular spot for heritage tours of Georgetown and a venue for special occasions like weddings and parties. So imagine staying in this striking mansion.

Penang heritage hotels

The aptly named Blue Mansion has an exterior painted in a vibrant, eye-catching Indigo-blue. This heritage hotel really is a visual treat. Some of the internal rooms follow this blue theme. The Blue Mansion has 38 rooms, 7 staircases and 5 courtyards.

The Blue Mansion was designed and constructed by the Chinese merchant and entrepreneur Cheong Fatt Tze in the 19th century. Cheong Fatt Tze was influenced by traditional Chinese architecture. You can also see international features in his work.

Cheong Fatt Tze was a perfectionist and wanted to create a mansion that would serve as a residence and business premises for himself and his descendents. He used materials from around the world to create his masterpiece.

For such a prestigious and historical property the rooms have an elegant simplicity. They are neither minimalist nor overcrowded. We love the elegant use of tile, mosaics, rich dark wood furniture and traditional Chinese artwork. If you do plan to stay at the blue mansion be aware but some of the rooms are not on-site.

Penang heritage hotels

Here is a brief overview of the rooms which are on site at the Blue Mountains. Considering the significance of the property we think these rooms are very good value for money.

The Liang rooms

Penang heritage hotels

The Leong room is the cheapest type of room available at the blue mansion. The Liang room is situated upstairs and accommodates up to 2 people with either a double bed or two single beds (twin). The liang room is simple and beautiful.

The Ming rooms

Penang heritage hotels

The Ming Room is a little bit more expensive than the Liang than the Tang room. It is situated downstairs allowing easy access to the outdoor swimming pool. The Ming room is also available as a double or twin. We love the tessellated tile floors and dark wood furnishings in this room.

The Tang Double room

Penang heritage hotels Blue Mansion spa

The Tang double room is similar to the Ming room in style except it also has a romantic spa bath nestled into a small alcove in the room. This is our favourite room at the Blue Mansion.

The Han triple room

Penang heritage hotels

The Han triple room is the most expensive type of room available at the Blue Mansion. This is the best option for families at the Blue Mansion. Located upstairs the Han triple room offers a large double bed, a single bed and a seating area. We also love the use of Blue in this room. The advantage of the Han triple room is the additional space and capacity. However it does not offer the easy pool access of the ground floor or the spa bath of the Tang Double room.

This is genuinely one of the most prestigious Penang heritage hotels around – so if you want to stay here BOOK early! Expect to pay around £120 – £200 or $150 – $250 per night to stay at the Blue Mansion.
