The approximate price range per person varies between 1,000 to 5,000 yen (around £5 – £25 or $6 – $30) depending on your catch and selected cooking methods. Opening hours: Weekdays: 17:00 – 23:00 (Last Order at 22:00) Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays: 11:30 – 15:00 (Last Order at 14:30), 16:00 – 23:00 (Last Order at 22:00)
How to Get to Zauo Fishing Restaurant
Located in the bustling Namba district, Zauo Fishing Restaurant is easily accessible via Osaka’s efficient subway system. The most convenient route is to take the Subway Sennichimae Line or the Subway Sakaisuji Line to Nihonbashi Station. From Exit 6, it’s just a one-minute walk to the restaurant.
Directions from Nihombashi Station (Exit 6): Just walk two minutes north. It’s on the right, nearly opposite the Dotonbori walking street. : A one-way ticket within central Osaka typically costs between 180 to 230 yen, depending on the distance.
What to Expect at Zauo
A Japanese restaurant may sound terrifyingly formal – but don’t worry this place, is relaxed, friendly and welcoming. Yes there are some customs (like taking your shoes off before you step up onto the boat) – but the staff are very helpful and will explain everything. We visited with our excited and active kids – and felt very comfortable and welcome here.
When you arrive, the friendly staff will guide you through the fishing process, offering tips to ensure a successful catch. Aim for 5:00 pm on weekdays, as the restaurant is less crowded, increasing your chances of securing a table without a reservation.
What about Payment Methods? Both cash and card payments are accepted. Online reservations require a deposit, which is fully refunded upon arrival. You then pay for your meal after dining.

Fishing Experience at Zauo
Firstly – just remember keep the rod and bait steady in the water, as excessive movement can scare the fish away You get a 2-hour dining slot – which is generally plenty of time to fish and enjoy your food (they aren’t super strict over this if it’s not too busy). Fishing rods and bait are provided at no extra cost. After catching a fish, place it in a net and inform the staff. A celebratory drum performance accompanies your success. Patience is key, especially later in the evening when fish may be less active. Once caught, fish cannot be returned and must be paid for. Be cautious, as some larger species can cost up to 10,000 yen. Just ask the staff if you’re in any doubt.
Is this restaurant Family Friendly?
This is a great one for families. We visited with our kids and they had an amazing time (7 and 4 years old). Actually catching a fish was a real highlight for our eldest boy. We definitely recommend this one for families:
- Fish Corner: Ideal for children, this area offers smaller, more affordable catches like horse mackerel (approximately 1,000 yen). The higher fish density here makes catching easier.
- Seating: You can sit on the boat to make it feel like a real fishing trip – the boat is not actually floating – but it is still a fun place to sit.

What is the Food Like at Zauo Fishing Restaurant?
After celebrating your catch, you can choose how you’d like it prepared: Options include sashimi, grilling, boiling, or frying. For a varied experience, you can even opt for a 50:50 preparation, combining methods like sashimi and grilling. Don’t miss the Fish Corner Selection: Beyond horse mackerel, you can catch shrimp for about 400 yen each (£2 or $2.50). The dense population in this area makes it easier to catch these smaller items and get what you actually want. There are also additional options that allow you to fill up without blowing the budget: Fish Head Miso Soup: At 200 yen, this is tasty and a bargain. And definitely don’t miss the side Dishes: You can order natto bean sushi wraps (around 200 yen) and potato wedges (480 yen) for a more rounded meal.
