You can see Sakura decorations, attend sakura festivals, and you can even try sakura-flavored snacks and drinks (sakura lattes are a personal favorite!).
Blossom season in Japan may be fun, but it can also be quite intense and challenging. But if you are hoping to see the blossom in Japan, organization is everything.

When is the best time of year to see the blossom in Nagoya?
Before you read on, it is important to recognize that there are no hard and fast rules. The blossom season can come late or early, varying by as much as 2 – 3 weeks from year to year. This variation can make travel planning pretty challenging, especially if you are working around fixed holiday dates (for example, teachers or families with kids on school holidays).
On an average year in Nagoya, the blossom comes into bloom in late March (3rd or 4th week in March) and begins dropping by the 3rd or 4th week of April. By the end of April, the blossom trees are normally quite sparse and not particularly photogenic. The most reliable peak of the blossom season is normally in the 1st – 2nd week of April.
In 2024, the blossom season in Japan was relatively late. Late March was too early (you could observe some small unopened pink buds, but not enough for vibrant, impressive blossom photos).
By early April, lighter-colored blossoms started to bloom first (Yoshino Cherry), followed by darker species such as the East Asian Cherry and the near-red Prunus Campanulata. Then by the 2nd week of April, the blossom was in full bloom. By the 3rd and 4th week of April, the blossom was thinning out.
Top tip for traveling Japan in the blossom season
Make sure you book your accommodation very early. If you leave booking too late, you will be very unlikely to find a place in your budget range that meets your needs. We recommend booking your accommodation at least five or six months in advance. If possible, try to find a place with a good free cancellation policy. This means that you should be able to cancel your booking for free (up to a certain date prior to your trip).

1 Nagoya Castle
FULL GUIDE – Nagoya Castle – everything you need to know before you go
In brief: the best place in Nagoya to get an iconic blossom shot.
Nagoya Castle is one of the most iconic and popular blossom spots in Nagoya (and for good reason). There is a very beautiful row of blossom trees situated to the south of Nagoya Castle (close to the food kiosks). In this section the blossom is thickest and most impressive. However, it is not possible to get a good blossom shot which also includes the castle. If you are looking for a good castle and blossom photograph, we recommend heading to the foundation stones on the northeast side of the castle. Although there are not a lot of blossom trees near the foundation stones, there are a couple of beautiful trees which allow you to get a nice panoramic shot including both blossom and castle.

There is also a very beautiful blossom tree situated on the path at the northwest corner of the castle. It is no longer possible to go inside Nagoya Castle itself; however, the Nagoya Castle grounds are expansive and very beautiful. As one of the most prominent attractions in Nagoya, the castle can get very busy, so it is important to plan a sufficient amount of time. Especially if you are hoping to get some superlative photography, you would need to be prepared to wait and work around people and plan your photography carefully. Entry costs 500 yen.
2 Gokoku Shrine
In brief: one of the best places for a beautiful blossom temple shot in Nagoya.
Situated around a five or ten-minute walk to the south of Nagoya Castle, the Gokoku Shrine is probably one of the best places to get that classic Japanese cherry blossom photograph. The gate and road leading to the shrine are lined with an abundance of vibrant blossom trees. There are plenty of creative opportunities to get unique angles on the cherry blossom with a backdrop of a stunning Japanese temple. This is probably one of our top pick spots to see the cherry blossom in Nagoya. It is free to visit and only a short walk from the castle (so that you can see both very easily).
3 Tsuruma Park
In brief: lots of blossom trees and great for photos; plenty of other colorful flowers too.
If you’re looking for a popular and beautiful blossom spot in Nagoya, then we highly recommend Tsuruma Park. This is a great spot if you are hoping to see lots of colorful blossom trees packed together (equally packed with crowds of locals enjoying the spectacle!). Tsuruma Park has a nice sociable vibe. Families and groups of friends gather on the grass to play games and have picnics. Exploring a Japanese city park really is an experience in its own right (regardless of the blossom opportunities).
4 Tokoname Pottery Village
In brief: several blossom trees among a beautiful Edo Japanese town.
If you are looking for a tranquil and underrated hidden gem in the Nagoya area, then we highly recommend a visit to the Tokoname Pottery Village. This quaint village is best known for its industrial kilns, Edo period houses, quirky art shops, and narrow streets lined with pottery and ornaments. However, the Tokoname Pottery Village also has several scenic blossom trees dotted around the village. These trees create a vibrant contrast with the rustic aesthetic of this historic village.
As a starting point, we recommend going to the famous pottery pathway (a steep path lined with ceramic pots). At the bottom of the pottery pathway, you can see a small beautiful public Japanese garden with a lovely blossom tree. This is a particularly pretty area. You can also find some blossom trees around the temple at the top of the hill (above the pottery pathway). The Pottery Village does not have an overwhelming amount of blossom; however, it is a very beautiful and unique area to visit during the blossom season. It takes around 45 minutes to travel to Tokoname Pottery Village from central Nagoya (take the Meitetsu Line from Myo-ondori). It is free to walk around and explore the Pottery Village.

5 Sakae Park
In brief: small collection of blossom trees, very convenient but not great for photos.
If you’re looking for a central spot to enjoy blossom in Nagoya, then check out Sakae Park. This small park has a reasonable collection of blossom trees. It also has a kids’ play park and a pond. In our opinion, this is not the most impressive spot for blossom watching, so if you are hoping to take some superlative photos, this may not be the best option. However, it is very convenient, being very central.
6 Meijo Park Flower Plaza
In brief: reasonable amount of blossom trees situated in a very beautiful botanical garden.
Meijo Park is situated north of Nagoya Castle. If you are doing a blossom tour of Nagoya, you can visit this park after the castle. This park has a lot of very beautiful and colorful flowers, which adds to the aesthetic treat of blossom season. There is also a reasonable amount of blossom trees around the grass lawns. You can get some very nice blossom photos here. The blossom trees in this park are not as impressive as Tsuruma Park.
