Backpacking family longtrail boat Krabi

One of the first things to establish when you are planning your accommodation in Krabi is what type of hotel you are looking for. There is a wide range of different hotel types in the area. If you’re traveling on a low budget, we recommend looking for cheap guest houses and hostels. If you are a mid-range traveler, there are lots of small resorts offering bungalows and suites. The Krabi area also has a good range of innovative and creative accommodation, such as Venetian water villas and secluded jungle resorts. Before you pick a place to stay, start by thinking about what you hope to experience in Krabi.

What are the best areas to stay in Krabi with kids?

Princess Cave Phra Nang Beach Krabi

Krabi is a large province in the south of Thailand with several different areas to stay. We will just take a moment to help you get to grips with each of these areas, which in turn will help you decide on the best area for you.

1 Krabi town

Krabi town is the main town in the Krabi province, and it is a popular destination if you’re looking for a convenient place to stay. It is slightly less touristy and slightly more local than Ao Nang Town. It is very easy to organize trips, tours, and book transport connections in this area. There are also plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants around, but just particularly important if you’re traveling with hungry kids.

2 Ao Nang Town

Ao Nang town is the most popular area to stay in Krabi. It is more touristy than Krabi Town, and there are plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants in Ao Nang. This area is very convenient for booking transport connections, trips, tours, and activities. It also has a great vibe. There are plenty of bars in the area, and there are two very beautiful beaches.

3 Tonsai Beach

Tonsai Beach is the most tranquil and peaceful beach in the area, and it is framed by very dramatic and beautiful jungle-covered hills and cliffs. This is also a top spot for climbing in the area. Tonsai Beach is relatively remote, and you can only access this beach by shared taxi boat from Ao Nang. Shops, restaurants, and facilities are very limited in this area, so we recommend preparing well if you are planning to stay on Tonsai Beach with kids.

4 Railay Beach

Railay Beach is situated next to Tonsai Beach, and it is more popular and busier than Tonsai (you can walk between Tonsai and Railay Beach). Railay Beach has several resorts, restaurants, and also has several shops available. There is Railay East Beach and Railay West Beach, and you can walk between the two. This is also a good place for taking taxi boats. Although this area is more developed than Tonsai Beach, we do recommend planning and preparing carefully if you are staying with kids. Some things are still limited in this area, such as nappies, wet wipes, baby milk, and kids’ snacks.

What to expect when you are looking for family hotels in Krabi

If you are booking family hotels in Krabi, it is important to know what to expect. Although this is a fantastic area for families, there are not any large resorts offering the classic family-friendly amenities and services.

So it is not easy to find kids playrooms, kids clubs, babysitting services, or kids swimming pools. If you are looking for family-friendly resorts like this, then we recommend considering Phuket, which has an outstanding variety of family hotels with excellent facilities and services for families. However, Krabi is a wonderful destination for family travel. Many of the more expensive and luxurious resorts do offer facilities for families, such as baby chairs, free cots, and kids’ meals. At the cheaper end, you won’t get any of these things. Cheap family hotels in Krabi really are just a place to stay so that you can explore this beautiful area with kids.

And finally, if you are visiting Krabi with young kids, it is important to be aware of safety around these hotels. Many hotels in Krabi have balconies and may have drops, which can be risky with particularly young kids. We also recommend that you supervise kids carefully around swimming pools. Even budget hotels in Krabi have outdoor swimming pools, and this can be very dangerous for babies and young toddlers.

1 Baan Asree

Baan Asree 1

£20 – £35 per night

Baan Asree is one of the cheapest family hotels in Krabi. This hotel also has a surprisingly good range of room options for families. For example, the 3-bed family room can accommodate up to 6 people with three extra-large double beds. This room only costs around £25 per night, which is outstanding value for money for this much space. Baan Asree is an excellent option even if you are a larger family and you’re looking for budget accommodation in Krabi. So what is it actually like to stay in a budget hotel like this with kids?

Baan Asree 2

Let’s start with some of the positives. Baan Asree is a relatively comfortable hotel. It is reasonably clean, and rooms have air conditioning, windows, and private bathrooms, so you don’t need to compromise on these basics. In fact, Baan Asree even has a small outdoor swimming pool. The main challenges of staying in a hotel like this are the lack of facilities.

Don’t expect style and luxury. Baan Asree doesn’t have cots. This hotel has a clean, simple, and basic feel. There is one more disadvantage of Baan Asree; this hotel is located in Ao Nang town a few kilometers from the beach, so when you want to visit the beach, you will need to take a taxi. If you’re looking for a great budget option in Krabi for a larger family, then Baan Asree is one of the best choices around.

2 Anda Sea Tales Resort

Anda Sea Tales Resort 1

£30 – £500 per night

Anda Sea Tales Resort is one of the best value for money family hotels in Krabi. If you’re traveling as a small family with young kids, you could take one of the double rooms which start at around £30 per night; this is amazing value for money for a luxurious hotel like this. If you are traveling with a baby (under two years old) they can lend you a free cot. They can also add additional beds to rooms for 750 baht per night per child (roughly £15 or $18).

Anda Sea Tales Resort 2

Alternatively, if you’re traveling with more kids, they have a family room starting at around £140 per night. The family room can sleep up to four people with one large double bed and two single beds. It is beautifully furnished and has plenty of thoughtful touches such as free toiletries and slippers. It also has adjoining rooms allowing more privacy and space for a family to relax. As a four-star hotel, they also have excellent facilities, including a rooftop infinity pool with a terrace area, and there is a decadent restaurant and bar on-site.

The main disadvantage of this resort is the location; it is around a 10 to 15-minute walk from the beach. So if you are looking for somewhere that allows easy beach access, you may want to choose one of the other options that are closer to the beachfront.

3 Mild Garden View Resort

Mild Garden View Resort 1

£35 – £40 per night

Mild Garden View Resort is on the low end of the budget range and offers various options to families. This beautiful resort is excellently situated a short walk from the Landmark night market. It is a five-minute walk from the beach, and there are plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, and the Seven-Eleven convenience store in the area. This is a fantastic location for families in Krabi.

Mild Garden View Resort 2

The Mild Garden View Resort is run by a lovely team of local staff who are very welcoming and helpful. They can hook you up with tours, activities, and transport. They also have a restaurant, and you can pay extra to include breakfast with your booking. The Mild Garden View Resort has a small, pretty outdoor swimming pool. This resort comprises individual bungalows with various sizes and bedding options. Each bungalow has a private bathroom, a terrace area with chairs. The grounds around Mild Garden View Resort are beautiful and well-kept, and this resort has a lovely natural feel.

4 Doo Dee Boutique Resort

Doo Dee Boutique Resort 1

£40 – £80 per night

If you’re looking for family hotels in Krabi located in the Landmark Beach area, then we highly recommend the beautiful Doo Dee Boutique Resort. This small resort is situated a short walk from the Landmark Beach and the Landmark Night Market. There are plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants in the area, and there is also a Seven-Eleven convenience store nearby, which is very useful when you are traveling with kids.

Doo Dee Boutique Resort 2

Doo Dee Boutique Resort has excellent facilities, including an outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers, a bar, a restaurant, and an outdoor spa bath. Doo Dee Boutique Resort also offers a family room with a private bathroom which can sleep up to four people. The family room has a large double bed and two single beds and generally costs around £50 per night. The spacious family room is very well furnished with amenities such as a refrigerator, flat-screen TV, desk and chair, and a sofa. This is an excellent option if you are looking for a stylish mid-range hotel with excellent facilities in a fantastic location.

5 Railay Phutawan Resort

Don’t miss our guide on How to Get to Railay Beach

Railay Phutawan Resort

£60 – £240 per night

If you’re looking for impressive luxurious resorts at the lower end of the price range, we highly recommend you check out the beautiful Railay Phutawan Resort. This superlative resort is excellently situated high up on the hill overlooking Railay East Beach. The close proximity to a steep limestone cliff gives this resort a very dramatic and impressive aesthetic.

The best option for families is the Family Garden room which costs around £130 per night and can sleep 3 people (you could even manage 4 people in this room if you’re willing to squeeze in). We love the Asian interior design theme which complements the tropical jungle location. Rooms are beautifully designed with an ensuite bathroom, a balcony area, air conditioning, and excellent facilities. We are particularly impressed with the deluxe double grand Seaview room which is very spacious and beautifully designed. Large sliding window doors lead to a balcony with an absolutely breathtaking view of the bay; this really is an outstanding option. This room generally costs around £250 per night.

However, if you get a special offer or you are able to work out a deal with them, you can find it for as little as £130 per night. In our opinion, this is an excellent price for a truly superlative option. The only disadvantage of this property is the distance from the beach. It is a short hilly walk from the beach, and it can feel a little “out of the way” for some guests. So it really depends on what you’re looking for.

6 Venice Krabi Villa Resort

Venice Krabi Villa Resort 1

£60 – £400 per night

The Venice Krabi Villa Resort is one of the most interesting and unique family hotels in Krabi. This stunning resort is a fusion of Venetian culture and beauty with the charm and aesthetic of a peaceful Thai village. It is also a very luxurious option with excellent facilities, including an outdoor swimming pool. There is also a restaurant, and you can include an excellent buffet breakfast.

They also have a family suite water Villa which can sleep up to four people. This spacious wooden Villa is extremely beautiful. The wooden Villas are extremely comfortable, stylish, and clean. They can also include a free, on request, for kids 0 – 3 years old. This unique property is situated a five-minute walk from the Ao Nam Mao Pier in Krabi town.

Venice Krabi Villa Resort 4

They also include a free scheduled shuttle boat service to Railay Beach. In our opinion, this is one of the most unique and impressive family hotels in Krabi. Keep an eye on Booking.com and Agoda for excellent deals at the Venice Krabi Villa Resort.

7 Tinidee Hideaway

Tinidee Hideaway 1

£100 – £150 per night

If you are looking for a relaxing and tranquil stay on a secluded luxury resort, then check out the magnificent Tinidee Hideaway resort, which is situated on Tonsai Beach. This is one of the most peaceful and tranquil beaches in the area and it is also one of the best spots for climbing in Krabi. The Tinidee Hideaway is a very well-kept and luxurious resort with simple yet stylish and luxurious rooms designed to help you connect with and immerse yourself in the stunning scenery around Tonsai Beach.

Tinidee Hideaway 2

We are particularly impressed with the family room which has a large double bed and an adjoining room with bunk beds. This spacious suite can sleep up to 4 people comfortably. It’s important to be aware that the amenities in this area are very limited and you will need to consider this if you are planning to stay on Tonsai Beach with kids. The only way to access Ao Nang town is by taxi boat (100 baht per person each way).

There are a couple of small restaurants on Tonsai Beach and a couple of small shops – but the choices and range of products are very limited. If you are traveling to this area with a baby we recommend bringing a sufficient supply of nappies and wet wipes. If your kids rely on eating certain snacks then we recommend bringing plenty of snacks for your stay. The Tinidee Hideaway does include breakfast with your booking. This is a big bonus in a relatively remote and expensive area.

8 Baan Habeebee Resort

Baan Habeebee 3

Baan Pinya is one of the most luxurious family hotels in Krabi. In fact, this is a single Villa property rather than a classic hotel or Resort. Baan Pinya is a very beautiful, luxurious and unique Villa with its own private swimming pool and outstanding facilities and amenities. If you value space, privacy, autonomy and luxury then this is a fantastic option.

Baan Pinya 1
Baan Pinya 2

We absolutely love the Fusion of traditional Balinese interior design themes combined with contemporary facilities. This dreamy Villa can sleep up to 6 people with three private bedrooms each of which is furnished with a large comfortable double bed. This superlative Villa is situated in a quiet suburb between Krabi town and Ao Nang town.

10 Rayavadee (Railay Beach)

Rayavadee

£550 – £1,200 per night

Rayavadee really is one of the most remarkable and impressive resorts in the area. The stunning Resort is situated on Railay East Beach close to the footpath leading to Phra Nang beach. This is genuinely one of the most beautiful spots in the area. Rayavadee is designed in such a way but it blends seamlessly into the intensely beautiful tropical surroundings.

Rayavadee 2
Rayavadee 3

The supremely luxurious Resort comprises a range of splendid Pavilions which are beautifully furnished and designed to create a luxurious natural ambience each of the Pavilions includes a comfortable double bed however they can also add additional beds and cots to accommodate larger families. Rayavadee Has outstanding facilities including an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by lush tropical jungle and it has an exclusive restaurant situated in a beach cave on Phra Nang beach.

Rayavadee 1

The price tag is definitely on the high side but when you look at the style quality and level of luxury the price range makes perfect sense. This resort is an amazing option if you are looking to splash out on a truly unique holiday of a lifetime in Krabi.
