If you only have one or two days to see Siem Reap, you will need to be very purposeful and intentional, and you will probably need to miss some of the best parts. So, we do not recommend any less than three days in Siem Reap unless you are on a very tight travel schedule.

If you only spend one or two days in Siem Reap, you will also find that you don’t have a lot of recovery time in your itinerary. In our experience, traveling around too fast can be quite tiring because you are constantly in transit and have no time to rest and recover between your journey. So if possible, we recommend spending a minimum of three full days in Siem Reap to make the most of the amazing activities and attractions in the area.

3 Days in Siem Reap

Ta Prohm Temple roots

If you do have 3 days in Siem Reap, it is possible to see all of the main attractions and also take a little time to slow down and relax. If you have three days in Siem Reap, take a day trip to Angkor Wat. This is the most prominent and iconic attraction in Cambodia, and it is well worth a visit. It is possible to see all of the main temples in a single day, and you could also fit in a sunrise and sunset as well. In the evening, you could explore the pub street area (it may be a bit touristy, but it is also fun, and there are some nice bars on the side streets nearby).

Cooking course Siem Reap

With three days in Siem Reap, you will also be able to explore the night markets and visit some of the other attractions around town. You could consider doing a Traditional Cooking Class (don’t miss this authentic & fun cooking course on KLOOK). Also consider taking a day trip to a beautiful floating village on Tonle Sap Lake (you can also find a fantastic day trip to an authentic floating village on KLOOK). In our opinion, three days is the optimum amount of time to experience all of the best bits of Siem Reap but also allow time to see other destinations in your itinerary.

Top tip for a short trip

If you only have a short stay in Siem Reap, we recommend that you find a hotel or a guest house that is a short walk from Pub Street. This is the central area of town, being in this area means that you have easy and convenient access to shops, cafes, restaurants, ATM machines, and you can also find places to get your laundry done. With a short trip, it makes a lot of sense to stay in a central location with better amenities.

Example of a fun 3-day itinerary in Siem Reap:

  • Day 1: Visit Angkor Wat and explore the temples and see Pub Street.
  • Day 2: Visit a floating Village and explore the night markets.
  • Day 3: Take a cooking class and get a massage.

5 Days in Siem Reap

If you have longer in your travel itinerary, you could spend 5 days in Siem Reap. With this much time, you should be able to slow down a little bit and relax. We still recommend taking a one-day visit to Angkor Wat (although you can purchase a 3-day pass if you are very enthusiastic and want to explore the temples in more depth).

Assuming that you only take one day to explore Angkor Wat, you could also do plenty of other fun and enjoyable things with 5 days in Siem Reap. For example, you could visit the ICF Wake Park and have a go at wakeboarding or try the inflatable obstacle course. You could also have a ride on the Angkor Eye. If you have a little longer in Siem Reap, it is also the perfect opportunity to dive into some local culture and have some more authentic local experiences. You could take a visit to a local morning market, try some local street food, or explore one of the Buddhist temples around town.
