If you’re wondering whether it is worth visiting Jordan in 2025, the quick answer is “YES” (at least that’s our opinion!) However, it is worth pointing out that visiting Jordan is not for everyone, and there are also some challenges of visiting Jordan.
We are going to share our own experience of traveling in Jordan to help you make an informed decision. We have traveled to over 50 countries as solo backpackers, a couple, and now as a family. Hopefully, we can give you a clear picture of what it’s like to travel in Jordan and help you decide whether you should include Jordan in your itinerary.

Why do we think that it is worth visiting Jordan?
Firstly, Jordan is a stunning country with some seriously amazing things to see and do. One of the most impressive and significant attractions in Jordan is the iconic Treasury in Petra. We can see why this is a wonder of the world. We also loved visiting the Dead Sea and the baptism site of Jesus. If you are willing and able to travel at a high pace, it is possible to see all of the main highlights of Jordan in less than one week.
As a relatively cheap country, taking a trip to Jordan is not likely to cost you too much. The cheapest way to visit Jordan is to use the Jordan Pass (70 JOD or £70 or $80), which allows you entry to the country visa-free and also access to the main attractions. You are already saving money even if you just visit Petra (a visa costs 40 JOD, and entry to Petra costs 50 JOD without the Jordan Pass).

Food and accommodation are also very affordable in Jordan. Simple rooms start at around £15 or $18, and you can enjoy an amazing meal for as little as £3 or $4. Jordan is not likely to add too much to your overall trip cost.
Another highlight of visiting Jordan is experiencing the amazing food. In our opinion, Jordan offers some of the best value for money when you consider the quality and portion sizes. This is particularly true in the capital city, Amman. On the other hand, we found food in Petra to be quite expensive, and the quality was lower.
So, there are plenty of reasons to travel to Jordan. Jordan has some of the most unique and impressive attractions in the Middle East, and the locals are friendly, welcoming, and kind. Jordan is very affordable in terms of accommodation, transport, and food.
Challenges to traveling in Jordan
Firstly, if you’re planning to visit Jordan, you are likely to spend a lot of time in transit. This involves crossing borders, taking long bus journeys, and exploring dusty towns and cities. This can actually be quite tiring. So if you’re looking for a more relaxing holiday experience, you may want to skip Jordan.
Secondly, it is also important to recognize that Jordan has quite an intense and extreme climate. It can be very hot in the summer months (June – August), and it can also get very cold during the winter.
Another challenge of visiting Jordan is safety. We found the roads to be very fast and crowded, and drivers did not leave sufficient stopping distance. Even when we asked taxi drivers to slow down, they only slowed down a little bit briefly and then sped up again. Furthermore, it is important to recognize that most taxis in Jordan do not have functioning seat belts in the back of the car.
If you’re concerned about the safety of taxis, you can consider car rental (normally around 35 JOD – 50 JOD per day if you find a local dealer, roughly £35 – £50 or $40 – $60). For longer journeys around Jordan, there is one bus company called Jett. Make sure you book your tickets nice and early because these buses can get booked up in advance.
Overall, is it worth visiting Jordan?
It all depends on your specific travel goals and desires. If you’re looking for a slow, relaxing holiday, we don’t recommend visiting Jordan. Egypt is also a cheap country nearby with plenty of amazing history, and in Egypt, you can enjoy relaxing beach holidays by the Red Sea.
However, if you’re looking for a travel experience where you can connect with culture, history, and experience an intrepid and exciting part of the world, then we do recommend a visit to Jordan.
Jordan has beautiful, hospitable locals, delicious, affordable food, and some of the most fascinating and impressive attractions in the region. We really enjoyed our time in Jordan. Visiting the Dead Sea and Petra were definitely highlights, and in our opinion, these highlights outweigh the challenges of traveling in Jordan.
