Why do we love the Jungle Treehouse cafe (Baan Ton Mai)
There are lots of things to love about this beautiful cafe. One of the first things that strikes you is the stunning natural location right next to a small river immersed in the tropical jungle. This is a great place to unwind in nature and enjoy some forest bathing with an amazing drink.
There is a huge range of different seating available. We will share a few examples to give you a feel for the options and variety available in this beautiful cafe. Just opposite to the counter where you order food and drinks, you will see a retro vintage living room with a very comfortable sofa.
As you walk further into the forest, there is a section of seats next to the river where you can sit on the mat with a low table and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. They also have canopy walkways where you can perch high up in the trees and enjoy a drink with a view. They have treetop terraces and indoor seating areas, including an air-conditioned seating area, so you really can pick your spot depending on your mood and needs.
It is important to recognize that table service is not available throughout this cafe. As a relatively large area, you may need to order your drinks and wait for them at the counter. Speak to the staff about this when you arrive.
We also love the innovative and creative menu at this cafe. The drinks and food are genuinely gourmet and very decadent. The food and drink prices are high relative to other places in Thailand; however, the quality at this cafe is also extremely high. The jungle tree half cafe is located to the east of Ao Nang. It is around a 15 or 20 minutes’ drive from the town, making it extremely accessible and convenient if you are staying in the area. This is the kind of place that you could just drive past if you didn’t know it was there. From the road, it is not obvious that there is such an impressive and unique cafe at this location.

Due to its close proximity to Ao Nang, the Jungle Treehouse cafe is very easy to get to. If you are using a motorbike to explore the area, you can ride a bike here (find out more about motorbike rental in Krabi). Or if you have rented a car, you can also drive here. By car rental, there is no car park or off-road parking available at the cafe, so you just need to park carefully on the side of the road in front of the cafe. Be careful when you get out of your car; this is a pretty fast-moving road.
If you don’t have your own transport, you could also take a taxi to the Jungle Treehouse cafe. It is likely to cost around 200 baht for a taxi here from Ao Nang (one way). This is roughly £4 or $5. Unfortunately, taxis in the area are relatively expensive due to the high levels of tourism. A good way to get affordable taxis is to use the Grab Taxi app. You can use Grab if you purchase a local SIM card with some mobile data and then download the app from your app store. Is the Jungle Treehouse cafe suitable for families?
The Jungle Treehouse cafe in Krabi is a great option for families. This area is suitable for families with kids; however, there are a few risks that you need to be aware of, especially if you are visiting with younger kids. Firstly, supervise kids carefully by the river. The river is slow, but relatively deep, and there are no safety rails or handrails by the river.
It would be very easy for a curious toddler to topple in. There are several canopy walkways. These walkways are not really suitable for younger kids because there are a few drops. The treehouse doesn’t have a sufficient safety rail for your kids. Also, be aware that this is a jungle destination. We saw several giant golden orb-weaver spiders in the garden area. Hopefully, we are not putting you off too much. With a little supervision, this is an excellent place even with younger kids. There are plenty of seating areas that are suitable for families, and they also have high chairs for babies. We do recommend asking the staff to give a baby high chair a wipe before you use them. As a jungle destination, the high chairs can get pretty grubby.
