The good news is that there are plenty of motorbike rental shops around Siem Reap. You can even rent motorbikes directly from guest houses and the hotels in Siem Reap. However, in our opinion, the best place to rent a motorbike in Siem Reap is called Khmer Kruisers.

The exact price of motorbike rental in Siem Reap depends on where you rent your bike from, how long you want to rent a bike for, and what type of bike you would like to rent. The most common type of motorbike in Siem Reap is an automatic 125cc scooter. This is large and powerful enough for two people to share.
Motorbike rental in Siem Reap typically ranges in price between $8 per day and $16 per day (these prices are in US dollars, which is an accepted currency in Cambodia). Here some examples of bikes and common prices for rental:

You will also need to leave a deposit if you want to rent a motorbike in Siem Reap. You will generally need to pay for your full rental upfront plus a deposit. Like most things in Cambodia, the rental bike is negotiable, so we do recommend bargaining.
How do you rent a motorbike in Siem Reap?
If you are planning to rent a motorbike in Siem Reap, you do not need to book anything or arrange anything in advance. All you need to do is turn up at one of the bike rental dealers with sufficient money for your rental period and a driver’s license, passport, or cash deposit. Most of the bike rental dealers in Siem Reap have a reasonable level of English, so you will be able to ask questions and take a look at the available motorbikes.
Pick your bike
Once you have identified a motorbike, it is very important to check the bike very carefully, looking for any scratches, scuffs, or damage on the outside of the bike. Watch out for any cracks on the plastic work and also check the bike if it’s working properly. Most bike rental dealers will let you take a short test drive, check the engine, brakes, lights, and indicators. We also recommend that you take a careful look at the tires. If the tires are worn out, we recommend asking for a different bike.
Bikes with worn-out tires are more likely to sustain punctures, and you will generally be responsible for covering the cost of a repair or replacement tire. Furthermore, if the bike has worn-out tires, this is riskier, especially if you’re driving on dusty or wet roads, and there are a lot of dusty and wet roads in Siem Reap! We always recommend that you take photos of any damage on the outside of the bike.

Also, check the bike rental contract carefully and make sure that your deposit is noted down on the contract. Motorbike rental dealers in Siem Reap ask you to leave some form of identification as a deposit. In some cases, they will be happy to take a driver’s license, but other rental dealers may ask you to leave a passport. Where possible, we recommend negotiating a cash deposit or leaving a driver’s license. You never know when you may need your passport, so we do not recommend leaving this as a deposit.
Once you are happy with the bike and the contract, you can then sign, pay for your rental period and deposit. You are then free to go. Make sure you have a note of your bike rental dealer contact number in case you have any problems.

- Take a photo of any damage on the motorbike before you finalize your rental deal.
- Always remember to take a test drive and check the brakes and lights.
- Take a photo of your bike rental contract (in case you lose your paper copy).

- Make sure that you are also given a helmet when you rent your bike, and don’t forget to wear your helmet.
- You can buy petrol from glass bottles at the road side – just pour it into the fuel tank under the seat.
Safety tips for riding a motorbike around Siem Reap:
The roads around Siem Reap are relatively flat and may feel fairly safe on the motorbike; however, there are some risks and challenges that you need to be aware of if you’re riding a motorbike in this area.
Firstly, watch out for dusty, bumpy, unpaved roads. These can be very challenging, especially for new riders. Slow down and remember that dry dust can be slippery for a bike. Potholes are often filled with murky water, and they may also have unexpected hidden obstacles like submerged rocks and sudden dips. The roads can become very slippery and dangerous in the rain. Also, Siem Reap is liable to flooding, especially in the rainy season (August – November).
Secondly, be aware of other road users. Cars, trucks, and buses can be very dangerous, especially around motorcyclists. They will rarely give you any space when they overtake, and the roads can become very crowded at times. In our experience, larger vehicles have the right of way and they have very little awareness of (or concern for) motorbikes. You are generally responsible for avoiding larger vehicles and giving them space, not the other way around. So if you are driving on some of the main roads, we recommend driving very cautiously and staying close to the edge. Also, remember that there are more obstacles like potholes and debris in the road towards the edge, so you really do need to ride carefully and remember to wear a helmet at all times.
