We loved visiting the Golden Valley waterfall so much we have even been back with our own kids. Before you go it’s very important to be aware that these waterfalls are remote, intrepid and it is worth doing some research before you go. Is it worth visiting the Golden Valley waterfall?
Yes, we would definitely recommend a visit to the Golden Valley waterfall, especially if you’re exploring the north of Bali. It would not be worth a visit from south Bali on its own. However, there are plenty of other attractions to explore in the area. So, yes we do recommend a visit.
One of the BEST things about this area is the tranquility and lack of tourists. You may run into a few other intrepid travelers – but if you visit the Golden Valley waterfall there is a good chance that you’ll have the place to yourself. Especially if you stay a while or if you visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

What is the Golden Valley waterfall like?
The Golden Valley waterfall is an impressive powerful cascade surrounded by lush jungle foliage situated in a deep valley. This impressive waterfall throws damp mist into the air. There is a large plunge pool. The short trek to the Golden Valley water is very beautiful. You follow a steep path down the side of the scenic valley surrounded by lush jungle. There is an ECO cafe close to the waterfall. As you approach the waterfall the path can be muddy and slippery (watch out for steep drops along this section).
Where is the Golden Valley Waterfall located?
Just a head up. This area can be a little confusing and there isn’t much info available online. The Golden Valley waterfall (GPS coordinates 8°15’15.3″S 115°04’24.8″E) is located in the Golden Valley around 2.5km north east of Munduk Village. It is sometimes called the “Munduk Waterfall”. There is a few other waterfalls in the area that can add to the confusion (e.g. The Red Coral waterfall which is a short distance down the valley). What are the best ways to get to the Golden Valley Waterfall?

It is important to be aware that this is quite a remote location. There are no buses or public transport services running here. It is likely to take several hours to drive to the Golden Valley from Kuta or Ubud. It is also important to be aware that some of the roads are very steep in this area.
1 Get to the Golden Valley waterfall by motorbike
The most fun, adventurous and intrepid way to get there is to rent a motorbike in Bali. You can rent motorbikes all around Bali. We recommend getting a more powerful bike, especially if you’re planning to share with someone. We recommend at least 125cc and go automatic if you have the choice. The roads in this area are very steep and could be challenging for an inexperienced rider. You can rent bikes from hostels, hotels and guesthouses around Bali. Expect to pay around 100,000IDR – 200,000IDR per day (roughly £5 – £10 per day). Make sure you wear a helmet on the roads in Bali and that you are fully qualified and insured to ride a bike in Bali. 2 Travel to Munduk using a rental car
One of the most convenient ways to get to the Golden Valley is to use a car rental. This is also great value for money: You can find local car rental deals starting at around 200,000IDR – 400,000IDR per day (roughly £10 – £20 or $12 – $24). The best way to get a good deal is contact a local car rental dealer directly and negotiate for the best price. There are a couple of small laybys near the Golden Valley waterfall to park. It is free to park in the area but parking is limited. The road is too narrow for roadside parking.
3 Get to Munduk by taxi
If you are unable to ride a car or a bike you can also get to the Golden Valley waterfalls by taxi. The best way to arrange a taxi in Bali is to use the Grab taxi app. Be aware that if you are planning a long journey it may take a while for a driver to accept the journey on the app. Therefore you may wish to speak to taxi drivers waiting in town and arrange the trip with them. Use the grab taxi app to get a good idea of a fair price and make sure you agree on the price with a driver before you go.
Trekking to the waterfall
Once you have parked up there is a short trek down a steep path to the waterfall. The trek is likely to take around 10 minutes. The trail is small and steep at points. It is also uneven and there are some muddy sections. There are no handrails along the trail. Be careful along the last section as you approach the waterfall, there are some steep drops. The trail is well worn and easy to navigate.

The best time to visit the Golden Valley Waterfalls is during the dry season, which typically lasts from April to September. During this time, the weather is more predictable and the trails are less slippery.

The trail to the Golden Valley Waterfalls is steep, uneven and slippery in places. There are no handrails. This trail is not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. It’s important to assess your own physical capabilities before embarking on the hike. There are no accessible viewpoints of this waterfall from the road.
