Things to know before you go
It is important to recognise that many of the 5 star hotels we recommend in this article are not located in located in Ubud town itself; However, they are all within a few kilometres of Ubud, so the town is easily accessible by taxi. We have featured a selection of properties that are actually located in the town itself.
Another thing to be aware of is that many of the 5 star hotels around Ubud are small independent properties. In some cases you may find single villa properties advertised as “5 star hotels”. This is a little misleading. We have not recommended any single villa properties because we only want to recommend hotels or resorts that are fully staffed, with a reception desk, they have a range of facilities and amenities and a good selection of different rooms, suites or villas.
Ubud is not a great place for big brand names, classic 5 star hotels or high rise properties. Rather Ubud offers unique, stylish, decadent independent resorts immersed in the natural surroundings.
TOP TIPS: If you’re looking for the BEST value for money look at more expensive rooms in cheaper resorts rather than cheaper rooms in more expensive resorts. You tend to get a lot more for your money by looking at the best rooms available in the cheaper resorts.

1 Weda Cita Resort and Spa by Mahaputra

Weda Cita offers some of the lowest price accommodation out of all of the 5 star hotels in Ubud. And yet this place is genuinely amazing! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world of luxury hotels in Ubud.
Weda Cita is a small luxury boutique resort excellently situated around a 15 minute walk from the Ubud Monkey Forest. Weda Cita has a beautiful outdoor pool and lush gardens. This lovely little resort has excellent facilities including an onsite restaurant, a spa, reception desk, room service and more. There is a beautiful tasteful Asian design theme with Balinese Art and wooden interiors. Rooms and suites have large windows for natural light.
We are very impressed with the comfort, size, style and price of the deluxe room. 5 star luxury for the price of a budget room in many countries! This lovely spacious room has a supremely comfortable bed, entertainment system, beautiful views and a large ensuite bathroom with an elegant curved bathtub. Weda Cita also offers some of the best prices for private pool villas. These beautiful villas have a small outdoor seating terrace, small private pool, ensuite bathroom with bathtub and of course access to the larger shared swimming pool too.
Overall Weda city is one of the BEST VALUE 5 star hotels in Ubud! With an excellent location, great facilities and wonderful service, what is there not to love?
2 The Valerian Villa Ubud
Price range £100 – £200
The Valerian Villa Ubud offers a lot of luxury for the price. Located in the rice paddies a few kilometers to the south of Ubud town, this is a very beautiful and tranquil 5-star hotel. The best way to get to Ubud town from here is to use a taxi which will cost around 60,000IDR (roughly £3 or $3.50). You can book taxis on Grab or the staff at the Valerian can help you book a taxi.
This beautiful 5-star hotel offers excellent service, outstanding facilities and wonderful food. They offer a tasty buffet breakfast including Asian and continental options. There is also an on-site restaurant serving delicious Asian and international cuisine. The Valerian has a heated outdoor swimming pool, which is perfect for evening dips. The villas, gardens and common areas are meticulously clean and beautifully designed.
The Valerian has both double and twin rooms available, and you can select your room based on the view: Choose a rice paddy view, a pool view or both. There are not any larger rooms or suites available at this property. However They are able to include an additional bed in your room for an additional fee.
The Valarian Ubud Is one of the best 5-star hotels in Ubud if you are looking for luxury and great value for money.
3 Dua Dari, a Residence by Hadiprana
Price range £150 – £250
Dua Dari is a stately and tranquil sanctuary located in the lush Ubud countryside. This superlative property is relatively small offering only a few room options. however the rooms are large, decadent and beautifully furnished. The stunning resort is immersed in the beautiful lush jungle offering a wonderful balance of nature and luxury.
This is the perfect place to slow down and take a tech detox. The lush jungle in this area is home to an array of exotic wildlife – you can see monkeys, birds, lizards and much more in this area.
Dua Dari has very beautiful shared spaces. There is an outdoor swimming pool, terraces, lounge and balcony areas around this decadent resort. There is a traditional Balinese interior design theme with rich wooden fittings, sculptures and warm asian colors. We are particularly impressed with the one-bedroom residence with jungle view. This spacious suite has an extra large double bed (we could probably sleep 3 people) and a living room with a sofa bed.
Large windows allow beautiful jungle views and plenty of natural light. In our opinion this is one of the best value for money 5 star hotels in Ubud.
By the way, this is not the best place if you’re looking to meet new people and be in the heart of the Bali hustle and bustle. This is a quiet, secluded and tranquil paradise – perfect for slowing down and unwinding.
4 Tejaprana Bisma
Price range £180 – £1,400
Tejaprana Bisma is a luxurious 5 star resort tucked away on Jalan Bisma next to the Ubud Monkey forest. This resort offers an amazing balance of beautiful natural surroundings and close proximity to the heart of Ubud. Tejaprana is located a few minutes from Ubud town centre and yet it is immersed in lush green rice terraces and wild jungle.
The Tejaprana Bisma has a fusion of an East Asian and art deco interior design theme. There is a wide range of rooms and suites available. The Pool Villa with Garden view offers amazing value for money, style and comfort. This villa has a private outdoor pool, a large comfortable double bed, a stylish sofa and an ensuite bathroom with bathtub. The two bedroom villa with infinity pool is a great option for families. This spacious villa can sleep up to 5 people.
This villa offers privacy, luxury and plenty of space: there is a large double bed in one bedroom, two single bedrooms in the second room and a sofa bed.
This resort also offers excellent facilities and amenities: Outdoor pool, spa, bar, restaurant and plenty of terraces and relaxing spaces around the resort.
5 Royal Kamuela Villas & Suites
Price range £200 – £400
The Royal Kamuela is an AMAZING choice if you’re looking for a stunning classy 5 star hotel in Ubud town, at the lower end of the price range. Located on Jalan Monkey Forest (5 minutes from Monkey Forest), this luxury hotel is excellently situated right in the heart of Ubud close to markets, restaurants, coffee shops and temples.
The Royal Kamuela has all of the features, style and services that you would hope to find in a luxury 5 star resort. There is a large outdoor pool, beautiful spacious gardens, an on-site spa, restaurant and fitness center. Rooms and suites have modern plush furnishings with an Asian twang. Dark rich woods are combined with large windows and open space creating a peaceful ambiance.
We are particularly impressed by the One Bedroom Villa with a private outdoor swimming pool. This luxurious Villa offers both privacy and plenty of outdoor open space to relax. There is a private garden area, poolside terrace with sun loungers, indoor living room area, comfortable bedroom (double bed) and an ensuite bathroom with a spacious bathtub. At the lower end of the 5 star price range the Kamuela offers very good value for money.
6 Uma Kalai
Price range £200 – £500
The Uma Kalai is a stunning 5 star resort located around 3km to the west of Ubud. This magnificent resort overlooks the Ayung river valley in Sayan around 10 minutes drive from Ubud. The Uma Kalai offers many of the qualities of the Four Seasons at lower prices. It has the intimacy of a small resort and yet has the excellent range of facilities you would expect in a large luxury resort. As a smaller property this resort delivers a more personalized service and the staff really are amazing!
Uma Kalai has an on-site restaurant, spa, bar, fitness centre and a heated outdoor infinity pool with views overlooking the valley. The villas offer space, comfort, privacy and heaps of luxury. They are beautifully furnished and very well designed offering amenities like flatscreen TV, large balinese bathtubs, gardens, outdoor private plunge pools and even private steam rooms! The restaurant at Uma Kalai serves Indian, Indonesian and Mediterranean food. You can also request meals for special dietary requirements.
We are particularly impressed with the beautiful one bedroom villa with heated plunge pool. This property has stylish seating areas, a terrace, garden, outdoor Balinese Bath and a deep and alluring warm private plunge pool. The Uma Kalai is one of THE BEST 5 star hotels in Ubud. This beautiful little luxury resort delivers a lot for the price range. Book early to avoid disappointment.
7 Goya Boutique Resort
Price range £200 – £1,000
The Goya Boutique resort is a charming classy luxury resort bursting with character and style. This lovely resort has spacious and elegant suites with subtle yet regal designs. The rooftop infinity pool at the Goya resort is very impressive with breathtaking jungle and mountain views. Goya has very good facilities and amenities including an on site restaurant, spa and bar.
There is a sociable and beautiful terrace surrounding the swimming pool. We also love the use of lush tropical foliage around the resort. They offer a delicious A La Carte breakfast with a very good range of options and great portion sizes. This can be a little disappointing if you prefer a buffet style breakfast.
We are particularly impressed with the one bedroom Villa with a Private Pool. This villa offers excellent value for the quality and style. Goya is also a great option for families traveling in style – the two bedroom pool villa can sleep up to 4 people. Each of the bedrooms is beautifully furnished and has an extra large double bed.
We also love the bathtub positioned right next to the private outdoor swimming pool. The Goya is also excellently situated in a tranquil area of Ubud town on Jalan Bisma only a 10 minute walk from the Monkey Forest. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, coffee shops and markets nearby.
8 Tanah Gajah, a Resort by Hadiprana
Price range £300 – £900
If you’re looking for a luxurious retreat in the rice paddies check out the Tanah Gajah resort. This decadent 5 star resort is located amongst lush green rice paddies a few kilometers to the east of Bali. The Tanah Gajah resort has grand Asian style lounges, terraces and patios. There is a large outdoor swimming pool and sun loungers.
This spacious property offers a wide range of suites and villas. The Family Villa can accommodate up to 4 people (with a large double bed, two single beds). We are particularly impressed with the one bedroom pool villa. It has a private 8m outdoor pool, a Balinese style hot tub, an outdoor gazebo, decadent sofas, and sun loungers on a private terrace.
The Tanah Gajah also offers an impressive array of complementary services:

The Viceroy is excellently located around 3km to the north of Ubud – a short taxi ride from the bustle of town.
This stunning resort has outstanding facilities and amenities including an infinity pool with a beautiful valley view, spa, bar, fitness center, terraces. Two on site restaurants offer an innovative and creative menu of fresh delicious dishes. Whether you’re looking for fine dining or a cheeky treat – the Viceroy has it all. We love the beautiful gardens and plants around this resort – creating color and an appealing natural ambiance.
We are particularly impressed with the terrace pool valley view villas. These superlative villas have an outdoor terrace, private swimming pool with a stunning view. They are beautifully and tastefully furnished and also include an ensuite bathroom with a large free standing curved bathtub. The Viceroy offers packages that include spa vouchers and free cocktails.
TOP TIP
The Junior Suite at the Viceroy is the cheapest suite available here. In our opinion this is actually quite expensive for what you get. If you are considering the Junior suite at the Viceroy – look at some suites for a similar price in the other resorts we have featured (e.g. the One Bedroom Villa with private pool at the Royal Kamuela Villas).
10 Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan
Price range £900 – £5,000
The Four Seasons Resort is one of the most expensive 5 star hotels in Ubud. This stunning resort is located on expansive and beautiful grounds with gardens, trees, ponds, pathways, bridges, rivers and viewpoints. This stunning resort offers outdoor infinity pools with beautiful views, viewing terraces and a yoga terrace.
If you’re excited by the idea of staying in luxury immersed in the wild Balinese beauty – then check out the impressive riverfront one bedroom villa. This decadent villa is perfectly designed and situated to help you connect with the beautiful scenery of this location. This would be the perfect option for a romantic getaway of a honeymoon!
For a larger family check out The Riverview Two Bedroom Villa. This spacious villa is like a luxurious Asian country mansion with a private infinity pool overlooking lush Balinese countryside. This remarkable two bedroom villa can sleep up to 6 people with an extra large double bed and two large double beds.
