Brief overview – What is BASE CAMP?

BASE CAMP is the 2 day & 1 night camping experience at the ESCAPE Adventure Park in Penang. The experience includes 2 full days access to the park (adventure & water park), it also includes a stay in one of the tents on a fully equipped & secure campsite.

Why should you do BASE CAMP

ESCAPE camp fire

If you are planning to visit Escape in 2026, then we highly recommend doing the Escape BASE CAMP. The Escape BASE CAMP allows you to access the full Escape park for two days, and you can stay in a tent on the campsite overnight. There are lots of reasons to do the Escape BASE CAMP.

1 Make the most of the Escape park.

The Escape park is huge. There is an Adventure Park and a water park with loads of activities to enjoy and experience. There are so many epic things to do at the Escape park; it is almost impossible to do everything in a single day. The best way to make the most of the Escape park is to visit for two consecutive days, and the Escape BASE CAMP is the most affordable way to do this.

2 Meet new people.

The Escape BASE CAMP has a lovely, friendly, and sociable atmosphere. This is a great chance to meet new people and hang out in a beautiful setting. The first time we did the Escape BASE CAMP, we made friends with a family who we are still in touch with, so you really can make friends for life here.

3 Connect with nature.

The Escape BASE CAMP is the perfect way to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. The escape campsite is surrounded by beautiful jungle. It is common to see Dusky leaf monkeys playing in the trees in the evening, which monkeys are very gentle, playful, and graceful.

4 Slow down and recharge.

A day at Escape is a day full of fun action and adrenaline rushes; however, it is also pretty tiring (in the best possible way). Taking a stay at the Escape BASE CAMP is a perfect way to slow down, relax, and recharge so that you are ready for a second day of adventure.

5 Have fun.

The Escape BASE CAMP is a lot of fun. The staff on the BASE CAMP help organize activities, and they even do a live music performance in the evening. So whether you want to play on stilts, listen to live music, or share stories around the fire, BASE CAMP really is a fun and enjoyable experience.

6 Experience camping in the jungle.

There really is something magical and invigorating about sleeping in the wild surrounded by tropical jungle with the noise of crickets, frogs, and cicadas. At the Escape BASE CAMP, you can experience the thrill of sleeping in the jungle with the safety, convenience, and security of a fantastic campsite with excellent facilities and amenities. So if you have wanted to camp in the jungle, this could be your perfect opportunity.

How much does it cost to stay at BASE CAMP?

We recommend booking as early as possible to get the best prices; if possible, try to book a few months in advance. Once you have booked you will be emailed a link to take a selfie. Once you have done this you can save your picture – and use the facial recognition to access the park when you arrive. No tickets needed!

What is included in the price of BASE CAMP?

ESCAPE theme park Penang world's longest tube slide

BASE CAMP is actually amazing value for money. The price of BASE CAMP includes full admission to the Escape Adventure Park and water park for two full days. All of the activities in each of the parks are included in your ticket. The price of BASE CAMP also includes a tent (with blow-up air beds), a fire and/or a barbecue, live entertainment, facilities including showers, toilets, and water.

If you are hoping to do two days at Escape, then we highly recommend BASE CAMP. If you pay for two separate day passes for the Escape park, it could cost as much as RM360 (Around £72 or $90). Arriving at BASE CAMP – Top Tips

Face recognition Base Camp ESCAPE

Once you have purchased your BASE CAMP tickets you will be emailed with a link to upload a picture of your face to their entry system. You can just snap a selfie on your phone and save it to the system. This will make your arrival smooth and efficient.

Aim to arrive around 9.30am if possible. When you arrive at ESCAPE in the morning follow the signs for BASE CAMP (there is a small road to the right of the main entrance area). You can drive your car all of the way into the campsite (you will see a security guard staffing the gate).

The Security Guard will show you where to scan your face, this registers you in the park (you need to do this every time you enter or exit the campsite or the ESCAPE park). The system works very well. Once you’re in the BASE CAMP staff will show you around. Remember to give them any food that needs to be refrigerated. They will also show you to your tent. We recommend leaving your valuables locked up in your car. There are lockers situated in the changing room area.

Once you have dropped your things off you can go into the park. There is a small bridge at the back of the camp site (near the toilets). This bridge leads into the ESCAPE water park. From here you can explore freely and enjoy the park. The park officially opens at 10am. If you arrive around 9.30am you can be the first in the park at 10am and make the most of the Zip Coaster before it gets busy.

The perfect two-day Escape itinerary.

one week Penang itinerary ESCAPE

The Escape is absolutely huge; it is split into two parks. Firstly, there is the Escape Adventure Park which has obstacle courses, zip lines, swings, slides, and is also home to the world’s longest zip coaster. Secondly, there is the Escape water park which has a wide range of slides, pools, and water games. The Escape water park is also home to the world’s longest tube slide.

There are so many activities at Escape; it is almost impossible to squeeze them all into a single day. This is why we recommend taking two days at Escape if possible. Here is the perfect two-day Escape itinerary.

DAY 1

  • 9.30am Arrive at BASE CAMP sign in and drop your stuff off. Find out the timings of any competitions you may want to participate in.
  • 10.00am Enter the ESCAPE park (bridge near the toilets). Cross the road bridge to the Adventure Park, Grab a harness and go to the Chair Lifts. Take a chair lift.
  • 10.10am Ride the Zip Coaster down to the bottom and then take a Chair Lift again
  • 10.30am Ride the Tubby Racer down to the bottom
  • 10.45am Try the Monkey business obstacle course. This is an areal obstacle course with two levels, a lower and upper level.
  • 11.30am If you’re feeling brave try Atan’s Leap, try coco climb and then give the Sling Shot a go near the bridge
  • 1pm Get lunch (there is an A&W’s burger and fried chicken outlet in the water park, outside food is fine too!) Get changed into swimming stuff and top up your suncream.
  • 2pm Enjoy the water park – Don’t miss the Dead Sea Pool, Inflatable Obstacle Course & Wave Pool
  • 4.30pm Grab an inflatable ring, cross the bridge and take the chair lift. Ride the World’s longest tube slide. The queues should be minimal by late afternoon.
  • 5pm Do any last activities in either park – try anything you have missed. Do the Zip Coaster or Tubby Racer if you missed these earlier (these normally close around 5.30pm so you need to be purposeful)
  • 6pm The park closes – head to BASE CAMP for a BBQ, camp fire, entertainment and fun. Watch out for monkeys playing in the trees. Enjoy the camp site and meet new people.

DAY 2

  • 10am If you didn’t get to the zip coaster, get in early and have a ride before the queues build up. Or even have a second go!
  • 10.30am Try the Flying Lemur aerial obstacle course (this is challenging). Alternatively have a go at the upper level of Monkey Business.
  • 11.30am Try the Gecko tower climbing wall, Jumping Jack, The Kite Flyer, If you didn’t do the 20m platform on Atan’s leap you could try this.
  • 12.30pm repeat activities or try anything you have missed
  • 1.00pm Get lunch
  • 2.00pm Try some of the bigger slides (the banana flip, the Matt Race, Super Looper or the Mega Drop) Alternatively you may want something more calm like relaxing by the wave pool or rowing around the lazy river.
  • 4.00pm Try any final rides or activities (the queues should have died down by now)
  • 6.00pm Park closes

Alternatively you could do a full day in the adventure park on day 1 and then a full day in the water park on day 2. In our opinion doing the adventure park in the morning and then water park in the afternoon is more enjoyable. After a morning of sweating and running around, you will probably be very ready for a refreshing play in the water park.

Does BASE CAMP have secure parking?

Base Camp parking

Yes, BASE CAMP has secure car parking available throughout the duration of your stay. In fact, you are allowed to drive your car onto the campsite and park next to your tent. This is particularly convenient because you can leave valuables and bags inside your car safely locked away and protected from the elements. The BASE CAMPsite is also fenced, and there is 24-hour security, so your car will be very safe on the site.

Can you have a barbecue on BASE CAMP?

There is a drink vending machine on BASE CAMP, and there is also a drinking water dispenser (free) where you can get hot and cold water. However, there is no food available on BASE CAMP. You will need to provide your own food for the evening. Many people bring along barbecue food, and the local staff will gladly help you light a barbecue so you can cook your dinner. They also have a fridge on the BASE CAMP site; when you arrive in the morning on your first day, the staff can take the food to the fridge so it stays cool throughout the day. Alternatively, the closest town has several local restaurants where you can buy food such as Fried chicken and Malaysian Indian curries. Batu Ferringhi is a 15-minute drive away and has a wide range of local and international cuisine.

There are covered seating areas with fans. They have areas for campfires and barbecues. They also have WiFi at BASE CAMP.

Yes, they provide a tent at BASE CAMP, and the cost of the tent is included in the cost of your stay. Each tent can comfortably sleep up to three people. Each tent also includes two inflatable air beds (you can easily add an extra air bed if needed). The tents are all ready pitched, so you do not need to worry about setting up your own tent. The tents have a two-layer zip system – with an insect net on the inside. Each tent also has a swing seat, a barbecue area, and space to park your car next to your tent.

Do they provide sleeping bags or bedding at BASE CAMP?

Sleeping in the tent Base Camp

Although they do provide tents and air beds at BASE CAMP, they do not provide any additional bedding; therefore, you will need to bring your own bedding when you stay at BASE CAMP. We recommend bringing a light bed sheet and a comfortable pillow. You may also want to bring an under sheet so that you are not sleeping directly on the air bed.

Can you charge your phone at BASE CAMP?

Charging lockers Base Camp

It is not possible to charge your phone inside your tent at BASE CAMP because tents do not have an electrical hook up (so you can’t charge unless you have a portable charging unit). However, there are some electrical sockets available for charging situated close to the toilets. The sockets are inside the lockers (even though they have lockers, they cannot actually be locked shut). You can leave your phone or camera charging inside these lockers. We do recommend bringing an adapter plug with a USB port for charging.

Is BASE CAMP safe and secure?

Yes, BASE CAMP is an excellent activity for families. It is a great way to encourage your kids to connect with nature and experience camping as a family. The outstanding facilities at BASE CAMP make it very suitable for families; the site is clean, well-kept, and very secure. We have had the privilege of doing BASE CAMP a couple of times with our active boys, and they love the experience every time.

What happens if it rains on BASE CAMP?

Covered seating area Base Camp Penang

Penang has a tropical climate, and there are intense tropical downpours from time to time. Rainstorms in Penang are generally quite short, often lasting around 20 – 40 minutes. If it rains in Penang, the temperature drops a little, but it does not get too cold. If it does rain on BASE CAMP, you can still have a barbecue, and there are covered seating areas where you can hang out with people and chat. The tents are very weatherproof, so you do not need to worry about getting your stuff wet if it rains. In our opinion, a rainstorm would only make the experience more memorable and intrepid.
