Everything you need to know about the best hotels in Kuala Lumpur for family

If you are looking for the best hotels in Kuala Lumpur for family, please read carefully…
Hotels in Kuala Lumpur are generally welcoming to families, but may not offer the same level of services, facilities and amenities for families that you can find in other destinations.
Firstly, kids clubs are RARE with Kuala Lumpur hotels. Many of the hotels have not been designed with family in mind – so you will not generally find impressive kids spaces. If you are looking for hotels with more facilities and services for families – we recommend looking in more popular tourist destinations (e.g. Batu Ferringhi in Penang or Langkawi).
Secondly, be aware that the age that a child is counted as an adult varies massively from place to place. We have included this information in our guide to help you plan. Some hotels regard children as young as 6 to be adults. Other hotels don’t charge adult prices until a child is 18 (and actually legally an adult!). The average is around 13 years old.
Finally, with these excellent hotels MANY things come as standard (smart TV, wifi, soundproof secure rooms, daily housekeeping…etc). So you can generally assume these things will be included – but check if it means a lot to you. We have tried to focus on what makes each hotel SPECIAL and a GREAT option for families. All of the hotels that we have included in this guide are welcoming to families and generally have good family-friendly policies.
It is also worth being aware that Kuala Lumpur is a very big city. It can take several hours to travel across Kuala Lumpur, especially during our time. Therefore we recommend finding family hotels in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. All of the hotels in Kuala Lumpur for family that we recommend in this guide are centrally located (except Sunway Pyramid Hotel which is right next to the sunway lagoon and theme park)

7 The Hilton Kuala Lumpur

The Hilton Kuala Lumpur really is an impressive Hotel. This large and extremely well-equipped property offers outstanding facilities and amenities. The Hilton Kuala Lumpur has excellent family-friendly policies. The Hilton Kuala Lumpur has an impressive outdoor swimming pool with a water slide. We are particularly impressed with the Lifestyle suite at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur. This spacious sweet has a large window with an excellent city view. Blackout blinds to protect your well earned sleep. A spacious living room. And a bathroom with a bathtub and city view.

The main disadvantage of the Hilton Kuala Lumpur is that the rooms only have either one double bed or two single beds. This is not the best option for bigger families. However there are loads of GREAT advantages for families:

9 The Sunway Pyramid Hotel

The Sunway Pyramid hotel is a large 4 star hotel located right next to the Sunway leisure park (a fantastic family attraction in KL). The Sunway pyramid hotel has vibrant modern designs and comfortable, spacious rooms and suites.
The Sunway Pyramid hotel is located right next to the Sunway leisure park. This is one of the main family attractions in Kuala Lumpur. The Sunway leisure park has a water park, theme park and even an animal park. We wouldn’t normally recommend a hotel like the Sunway Pyramid Hotel for families. But given its location next to such a premium family attraction, this is a good option for families. It is worth being aware that this hotel is not close to the centre of Kuala Lumpur. So if you are planning to spend a lot of time visiting attractions in the centre of Kuala Lumpur you may want to consider a different property.

Unfortunately we do not think the policies at this hotel are particularly family-friendly. For example children as young as 6 are considered adults at the property (and pretty sure I’ve never seen the six year old shaving before!) They also have no capacity for cots or extra beds at this hotel. So overall, this is not an amazing option for families but given the great location next to the Sunway leisure park, we have still included in this guide.
- Located right next to the Sunway Leisure Centre
- Spacious rooms and suites
- No additional cots or beds available at this hotel

Expect to pay £350 – £400 for the large family suite at the Sunway Pyramid Hotel. To be honest this is our least favourite of the hotels in Kuala Lumpur for family – but we wanted to keep it on the list due to the location.
10 The Bird’s Nest Collective Cafe and Guest House

One of THE BEST hotels in Kuala Lumpur for family on a BUDGET.
If you are looking for budget hotels in Kuala Lumpur for family check out the Bird’s Nest Collective Cafe and Guest House, located near Jalan Petaling Walking Street (Chinatown) in the centre of Kuala Lumpur.
This small hotel offers affordable and comfortable accommodation to solo travelers, couples and families. The largest family room includes a single bed and large double bed. If you are willing to bed share, this hotel can accommodate up to 4 people in a room. They also have air conditioning and fans available in the rooms.

The Bird’s Nest does not have the facilities, services and amenities that you would normally find in more expensive and fancy hotels. This is a budget hotel in terms of price and facilities. The Bird’s Nest Hotel attracts backpackers and budget travellers (giving it a nice vibe). There is a nice social area upstairs. The Bird’s Nest Hotel is also very close to the nearest metro station and a convenience store. There is also a self service laundrette with washing machines and dryers nearby.

We would not recommend the bird’s nest to families with young children. Unfortunately in many of the rooms the windows are very low and pretty easy to open. This could be a risk with young children. However, if your children are older and more responsible and you are looking for a cheap location to get your head down for the night then this is probably a very good option for you.
