1 The Discovery Centre at KLCC (Petrosains)

The Discovery Centre in KLCC is one of the best activities to do in Kuala Lumpur with kids. The Discovery Centre is a large interactive science museum with a focus on technology, engineering, energy, life and transportation.

The Discovery Centre has different sections with a range of fun and interactive activities designed to engage children and help them learn science in context. You could spend a full day here without running out of things to do.

Each different section at the Discovery Centre has a unique theme. Examples of themes include the body, speed, energy, space and much more. You gradually work through each section in order following a route through the Discovery Centre. Your ticket for the Discovery Centre allows you to enter one time for the day.

You can stay as long as you like; however, it is not possible to exit the Discovery Centre and then re-enter later in the day on the same ticket. That is a small cafe in the Discovery Centre selling drinks and food. The selection is not very big so we recommend bringing food along with you.

The Discovery Centre at KLCC can get very busy especially during public holidays and during the Malaysian school holidays.

4 The National Science Museum (Pusat Sains Negara)

The National Science Museum is a fun, engaging and impressive science museum located in Kuala Lumpur. The National Science Museum is THE BEST value thing to do in Kuala Lumpur with kids… This museum has a large range of attractions including interactive experiments and demonstrations.

They have different zones with general themes such as the body, earth science, energy, radiation, technology and more. They also host talks and other events at the National Science Centre. There are also several areas for soft play including a large and fun indoor climbing and play house.

There is also a small aquarium (included with your ticket) and a dinosaur exhibition (for a small additional fee). There is a cafe at the National Science Museum but we were not impressed by the choice available here. Therefore we do recommend bringing your own food if you plan a full day here.

The National Science Museum is similar to the Discovery Centre. So if you only have a short time in kuala lumpur with kids we recommend choosing between the two. The advantage of the Discovery Centre is a convenient location in the centre of kuala lumpur at the KLCC.

The advantage of the national science museum is that entrance is surprisingly cheap. However it is not possible to get to the National Science Museum using the subway or LRT network. Both places have a similar range of attractions and have the potential speed to be very engaging and stimulating for kids.

The Eco Forest is an area of jungle in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. This place really is a celebration of the natural beauty and biodiversity of Malaysia. We love the antithesis between the jungle and city here. It is possible to hear birds, cicadas and KL traffic in the background.

There is a series of canopy walkways and bridges which follow a route around the Eco Forest park, allowing you to enjoy views of the Jungle below, the canopy and also some city views as well. This is a very unique and interesting experience and is a lot of fun with kids. Expect it to take around 1 hour to explore this area.

8 Banana waterfall

You may be surprised see a jungle waterfall on the guide on Kuala Lumpur with kids. If you’re visiting Kuala Lumpur with kids and want a taste of the Malaysian jungle, we highly recommend the banana waterfall.

We have included Banana Waterfall in this guide because it is possible to visit as a day trip from Kuala Lumpur (less than 20km from the centre of KL). Banana waterfall (Pisang Waterfall) is an impressive jungle Cascade with a reasonably deep plunge pool. The trek to Banana Waterfall is around 2km each way and is likely to take around 45 minutes each way. Near the start of the trek you actually climb through a tunnel where the river flows under the road.

Banana waterfall is an impressive jungle waterfall located close to KL. The trek to Banana Waterfall follows a small intrepid jungle trail. There is a good chance that you will be able to see some of the local Malaysian wildlife here. Watch out for insects, lizards, monkeys, fish and much more.

It is possible to do this trek independently and without a guide. However, we always recommend being very cautious if you do not have experience in the jungle. If you are in any doubt it is recommended that you go with a local guide. Contact the Kenali Asia camp to arrange a guide (www.kemsedayu.com) or contact Pinnacle Outdoor and Travel KL
info.pinnacle.outdoor@gmail.com
If you plan to visit Banana waterfall, bring plenty of water. The trail is rocky and uneven. Wear suitable footwear (trainers) and light comfortable clothing for being active in the heat. 9 Berjaya Times Square Indoor Theme Park (Bukit Bintang)

This place is a dream for kids and big kids alike. At Berjaya Times Square there is an whole theme park inside a mall complete with an indoor roller coaster. This place is seriously unique and epic. 10 Kidzania

Kidzania is an indoor activity and education centre designed to inspire and educate children about careers. “Exciting” may not be the first word that comes to mind when you think of careers education. But we think Kidzania have absolutely nailed it.
Kids are placed in innovative and imaginative scenarios and get to act and play the role of a professional. Whether it is a chef, a pilot or a surgeon or a fireman, Kidzania has it all.
They even have an impressive complete city. Children are encouraged to role play and use their imaginations as they engage with their environment. At Kidzania children are challenged to use problem-solving skills, literacy skills and numeracy skills to help them interact with the challenges around them. There is also a beautiful Asian philosophy that underpins kidzania. Children are introduced to learning important principles such as responsibility and integrity in a safe and fun environment.
The main disadvantage of Kidzania is the location, which is around 40 minutes from the centre of Kuala Lumpur. Also note that kidzania has a cashless ticket policy. Therefore, the only way to get tickets is to purchase them in advance online from their website. https://www.kidzania.com.my/
