1 The Discovery Center KLCC
Looking for family friendly activities in KL? Check out the Discovery Center (Petrosains). This is an amazing indoor Science Museum packed with Innovative and creative exhibitions and activities. This is the perfect family-friendly day in Kuala Lumpur. The Discovery Center is located on the top floor of the Suria mall near the Twin Towers KLCC. The Discovery Center has lots of themed sections. Learn about the body, energy, motion, forces, dinosaurs, space and much much more.

You really could spend a full day at the Discovery Center. There is so much to do here. Once you have entered the Discovery Center you follow a route through the different zones enjoying the various activities and exhibitions along the way. There is a cafe part way through with a small selection of drinks and food to keep you going. It is possible to buy tickets at the ticket office at the Discovery Center on the same day. However, during public holidays, weekends and school holidays the discovery sent to can be very busy. If possible, we do not recommend visiting at these peak times.

Recommended age range: The Discovery Centre at KLCC welcomes guests of any age . However, we think that children between the age of 4-15 years old will enjoy the experience the most.

2 The canopy walkway at KL Menara Tower
If you are looking for a unique way to escape from the hustle and bustle of KL consider visiting the canopy walkway. The canopy walkway is also known as the Eco Forest Park. This is located at the KL Menara Tower. This canopy walkway really is a unique city attraction. Located in a small section of jungle in central KL the canopy walkway allows you to see and experience tropical Malaysian jungle – no need to leave the city. The canopy walkway is not very long and therefore we only recommend 1 – 2 hours to visit. Also, there are some other great things to do in the area. You can also go up the Menara Tower to get some amazing views over Kuala Lumpur. You can also visit a small zoo and an aquarium at the bottom of the Menara Tower.
Location: By the KL Menara (telecommunications tower). The location of the entrance office is pinned on the map.

3 The splash park at KLCC (FREE)
At the KLCC there is an outdoor water splash park which is free to enter. The splash park is right next to the outdoor kids play park at KLCC. The splash park at KLCC has several shallow pools, stepping stones, an artificial waterfall and water fountains. This is the perfect free attraction for families with kids to enjoy a splash and cool down from the intense heat and humidity in Kuala Lumpur. We let the fact that the splash park is free of charge. There are also toilets located right next to the splash park at KLCC. If you plan to visit the splash park at KLCC remember to bring swimming clothes and a towel.
4 Trek to banana waterfall (FREE)
Did you know that within a short day trip you can also visit a waterfall near Kuala Lumpur? This is one of the more intrepid activities in KL. The Banana waterfall is located around 45 minutes – 1 hour north of Kuala Lumpur. This is an impressive jungle waterfall which can be accessed by taking a short jungle trek. The trek is roughly 2km and is likely to take around 30 – 40 minutes.
If you plan to visit Banana waterfall we recommend wearing good hiking shoes and light loose-fitting clothing. Bring plenty of water and mosquito repellent. It is possible to visit banana waterfall independently and without a guide. However, we do recommend finding a guide if possible, especially if you do not have a map or much jungle experience.

5 ESCAPE Adventure Park
If you are looking for adventurous activities in KL check out the Epic ESCAPE Adventure Park. The ESCAPE Adventure Park in Kuala Lumpur is designed to recreate the amazing activities thought you can do at ESCAPE Penang. the ESCAPE Adventure Park has high ropes, swings, jumps, slides and much much more.
You can think of the ESCAPE Adventure Park as a giant playground, suitable for adventurous kids and adults. we love the fact that there is no ESCAPE Adventure Park located in the center of Kuala Lumpur. If you are craving a wild adventure this is one of the best activities in KL for you. ESCAPE Kuala Lumpur really is suitable for anyone of any level of experience. You can book tickets for ESCAPE online in advance. The earlier you book the lower the price. If possible try to book tickets more than two months in advance for the cheapest prices.
Location: ESCAPE Kuala Lumpur is located in Petaling Jaya in the Paradigm Mall. From KL Sentral take the LRT Kelana Jaya (pink line) south bound (towards Putra Heights). Get off at the Lembah Jaya stop. There is a short walk to the Paradigm mall.
Recommended age range: Guests of any age are welcome. However we recommend ESCAPE Penang for kids over 120cm tall and over 4 years old.

6 The Botanical Gardens (FREE)
If you are looking for free activities in KL – don’t miss the Perdana botanical gardens. The Botanical Gardens is a large beautiful park located in the central district of Kuala Lumpur and is easy to access by subway and taxi. There are features such as landscape gardens, artificial waterfalls, ponds, rivers, bridges, statues and more. The Botanical Gardens is very big and it would take a long time to walk around the whole area. There are several different sections where you can see local plants and trees and they also have a cafe serving drinks, food and ice cream. Next to the botanical gardens you can also visit the Taman Tugu hiking areas. You wont believe these jungle trails are really in Kuala Lumpur.
7 Sunway Lagoon
Sunway Lagoon is one of the most fun activities in KL. Sunway Lagoon is a leisure park with a huge range of activities and experiences. There really is something for everyone at sunway Lagoon. Whether you are a child who wants a magical experience or an adult who just wants an adrenaline rush. Here are the main sections of Sunway Lagoon:
- The water Park: Boasts the world’s largest vortex slide, waterplexx 5D cinema, surf zone, congo challenge race slides and more.
- Amusement Park: Roller coaster, suspension bridge and 360 pirate ship.
- Extreme Park (X Park): Bungee jump, G force, the flying fox Go Karts and more
- Scream Park: Scary horror themed park with studio tour and live performance
- Wildlife Park: White lions, Malaysian tigers and more
- The Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon: Nickelodeon themed water park (water play for kids with some big slides too)
Entry tickets allow admission to the whole park for one day. The following activities are not included in the entry ticket: Bungy Jump, G-Force X, Go Kart and Fun Fair.
Location: Subang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur. There are several ways to get to Sunway. Take the KMT to Subang Jaya and then take a bus to sunway pyramid. Alternatively, take the LRT to Kelana Jaya and then take the bus to sunway pyramid. You can also use a Grab taxi to get to Sunway Lagoon.

8 Explore Chinatown (FREE)
If you’re looking for cultural things to do in KL check out the fun and vibrant KL chinatown. Malaysia has a deeply integrated Chinese sub-culture. Throughout Malaysia you can experience Chinese Malaysia food, clothing, temples and artwork. So as you can imagine, Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur is kind of a big deal. The hub of Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur is the Jalan Petaling walking street.
This street hosts a market throughout the day – but it really comes to life in the evening. Take a stroll along Petaling walking street and you will see streetside stalls selling not-so-legit clothes and fashion accessories, trinkets and gifts. There is also plenty of tasty and tempting street food to try in the area. If you are staying nearby we recommend taking a walk around Petaling street in the morning to experience a traditional Chinese-Malaysian breakfast. Chinese-Malay culture really is a warm and fascinating culture and an intrinsic part of any visit to KL.
9 Visit Batu Caves (FREE)
If you’re looking for cultural activities in KL don’t miss the EPIC Batu Caves. This Hindu cave temple really is worthy of a scene in an adventure movie. The Batu Caves are located in the north of the city and are genuinely very impressive. The cave is part way up a large cliff set amongst the panoramic jungle. You have to climb some steep, colorful steps to get to the cave (this is not suitable for prams or wheelchairs). When you reach the top of the steps you can walk into the main cavern which has a Hindu temple inside.
At the back of the main cave is a further set of steps leading up to an additional temple. This point you can actually look straight up at a wide opening. The Batu Caves are genuinely one of our TOP things to do in KL.
Top tip: Remember to dress respectfully when you are visiting the Batu Caves. It is important to cover knees and shoulders.
How do you get to the Batu caves?
The best way to get to the Batu caves from the centre of KL is to use the KMT train service:
- Go to KL Sentral station and find the KMT line.
- Take the KMT Laluan Seremban line northbound and ride this line all the way to the Batu Caves stop, which is a terminating station.
- From KL Sentral the train journey takes around 40 minutes. Be aware, trains are not very regular along this route. You may need to wait 30 or 40 minutes between trains.
- When you get off the train at Batu Caves we recommend looking at the time of return trains so that you can plan on your return journey.
- From the Batu Caves station it is around 5 minutes to walk to the entrance of the Batu Caves.
- The return journey price is around 5 ringgits from KL Sentral to the Batu Caves. Depending on your pace and goals it is likely to take one or two hours to explore the Batu Cave area.

10 Try some traditional dim sum
Last but definitely not least make sure you try some traditional dim sum. KL has many traditional heritage restaurants and cafes. One place to try is the Bunn Choon Bakery and Dim Sum restaurant. It is not too far from Jalan Petaling (China town).
The dim sum at Bunn Choon is on the expensive side – but we love the traditional ambiance of this restaurant and the quality and range of Dim Sum available here. They also have a small bakery downstairs serving Chinese herbal tea and Chinese traditional pastries and egg custard tarts. So if you’re in the area this is well worth the experience.
