Penang is a beautiful beach destination. However if you are looking for crystal clear calm waters for swimming, then Penang may not be the best choice for you. Although Penang does have some very beautiful beaches the water is murky and there are many jellyfish in the waters around Penang so we do not recommend swimming.
If you’re hoping for clear waters and snorkelling – consider a visit to the Perhentian islands, Redang island or Tioman island.

The Angsana Teluk Bahang
If you are looking for beach resorts in Penang by a secluded, quiet and tranquil beach – then the Angsana Teluk Bahang is the BEST option for you. The Angsana in Teluk Bahang is a new 5 star hotel located in the north west tip of Penang Island. The Angsana is an innovative and well-designed hotel. All of the rooms and suites are very comfortable, beautifully furnished and ocean facing.
The Angsana also has 3 outdoor swimming pools. There is an infinity pool with a beautiful view (check but your room includes free access to the infinity pool), a kids pool including a water slide and additional outdoor swimming pool. They also have a kids’ Playroom. We love the fact that ALL rooms come with an ocean view. KEEP AN EYE OUT for amazing deals on Agoda at the Angsana.
Angsana has a wide range of rooms and suites. The Angsana two-bedroom pool suite offers a private swimming pool with your room. This is the most expensive suite available at the Angsana hotel. The Angsana two-bedroom pool suite is very impressive. It includes two separate bedrooms with king size beds, a private kitchenette, and two en suite bathrooms with large bathtubs, a living room, dining area, smart TVs and much more. We love the way the swimming pool wraps around the suite, allowing direct access to the pool from both bedrooms. There is also a small decking area where you can sit outside and enjoy the swimming pool and view. As a celebration of the local culture and art, the Angsana hotel utilizes a vibrant Peranakan interior design theme.
Teluk Bahang is also a fantastic location for attractions in Penang. In Teluk Bahang there is a large Adventure Park called ESCAPE, and an insect and reptile conservatory called Entopia. There is also the Penang National Park, the smallest national park in the world. The Penang national park is a great spot for trekking and there are two main beaches; monkey beach and turtle beach.
They do take a large deposit of 500 ringgits at check-in. Also be aware that the journey from Teluk Bahang to Georgetown will take 45 minutes to 1 hour by car or taxi. Overall, if you are looking for quiet and luxurious beach resorts in Penang this is a great option. BUT the price tag is on the high side. Expect to pay around £450 – £580 per night for the two bedroom pool suite.
Lone Pine Hotel
If you are looking for luxurious beach resorts in Penang, then check out the premium Lone Pine. The Lone Pine is a relatively small resort. Although it is located very centrally in Batu Ferringhi, this property feels surprisingly secluded and tranquil. AND it is located right by the lovely Batu beach.

Established in 1948 the Lone Pine celebrates its history and longevity which are treated as a seal of excellence and quality. The Lone Pine is meticulously maintained and equipped with the latest amenities, such as flat screen smart TVs and luxurious new furniture. The Lone Pine has a range of rooms and suites available.
Rooms are tastefully decorated with classy vintage boutique interiors tastefully contrasted with contemporary art. We love the spacious Grand Premier Suite, with an extra large double bed and two single beds, this suite sleeps up to 4 people. It also has a living room, two bedrooms, private kitchenette, bathtub and rain shower. The Grand Premier Suite opens up to views of the gardens and the Andaman sea.
The Lone Pine hotel is a great option for a couple to stay on a romantic break. If you love time-honored quality, this is the property for you. The outer gardens and building have a classy traditional feel and lead directly onto the Beautiful Batu Ferringhi Beach. The central location of this property also means you can take a short stroll to attractions such as the night market, water sports and restaurants in Batu Ferringhi. The Lone Pine also serves a fusion of Asian and Western food at The Bungalow, Alfresco dining by the beach.
Again this is one of the more expensive beach resorts in Penang. Rooms range between £150 – £600 per night.
Shangri-La Rasa Sayang
If you’re looking for a more up market and expensive beach resorts in Penang you may be interested in the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang. The Rasa Sayang Resort is a beautiful large two wing beach resort. This is probably one of the most prestigious beach resorts in Penang. Located just on the outskirts of Batu Ferringhi in the north of Penang this stunning resort offers a peaceful and tranquil location for a luxury holiday.

The Rasa Sayang Resort is tastefully immersed in tropical Gardens and trees and foliage to accentuate the beautiful tropical location of this hotel. Although the Rasa Sayang is close to the beach – you may not necessarily get a sea view from your room. The resort is a short stroll from the beach. This is a quieter section of the beach in Batu Ferringhi.
There are two wings to the Rasa Sayang resort. There is the newer Rasa Wing and the older Garden Wing. We recommend booking in the Rasa wing if possible. In both wings it is possible to get rooms with a sea view. However, be aware that this resort is a few hundred metres from the ocean. So you are not guaranteed to get a room with a clear sea view.
The resort has a serene, peaceful and natural feel. The interior design at Rasa Sayang is best described as Asian Zen meets art deco. The cuisine at the Rasa Sayang Penang is genuinely outstanding. We are particularly impressed with the fresh seafood that is available at this property.
The Shangri La Rasa Sayang Penang has everything you would expect and hope for in a five-star resort. They have a well-equipped fitness centre, a spa, multiple dining options and bars and they even have their own mini golf course!
The Rasa Sayang is quite an expensive resort with rooms ranging between £110 – £550 per night. This is one of the most prestigious and beautiful beach resorts in Penang.
Lexis suites in Bayan lepas
The Lexis Suites is one of the only beach resorts in Penang to offer private pool suites AND also has its own private beach. It is amazing how far your money goes at this property. The Lexis Suites Hotel is a high rise hotel located on the south coast of Penang in Bayan Lepas.
The private pool suites are spacious, clean, luxurious and have a great view. Lexis suites also has excellent facilities and amenities including a kids playroom and an outdoor swimming pool. What is there not to love?

There are two types of suites here: The Executive Pool Suite and the Premium Pool Suite. Both types of room include a private swimming pool. And it really is private because of the design of the hotel. The advantage of the Premium Pool Suite is the additional space. The swimming pool itself is large and ocean-facing. The Premium Pool Suite also has two double beds and can sleep up to 4 people. This impressive suite also has its own steam room.
The main disadvantage of Lexis Suites is the location. Bayan lepas is a long way from many of the popular attractions in Penang. It can take an hour or more to drive from the south to the north of Penang. Most of the best attractions in Penang are located in the north of the island. In the north of Penang you can visit Georgetown, the botanical gardens, batu ferringhi, escape, the national park, Entopia and more.
If you don’t mind the location this is one of THE BEST beach resorts in Penang. Expect to pay around £100 – £200 per night at the Lexis Suites for a room with a private pool.
PARKROYAL Penang Resort
The PARKROYAL is one of the most established and prominent beach resorts in Penang. With LOADS of space, excellent facilities and amenities – the PARKROYAL Penang Resort is an excellent choice. It is also located very centrally on the charming Batu Ferringhi beach.
The advantage of a large impressive Resort like the PARKROYAL is the facilities and amenities. The PARKROYAL is excellently equipped and offered a wide range of activities and services.
The PARKROYAL has large impressive outdoor grounds. The outdoor pools, seating areas and palm trees give this property a really lush tropical feel. The PARKROYAL has a lot to offer. It is a very large beach resort offering a 5-star service across-the-board. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. You can choose between sea view rooms or cheaper hill view rooms. The interior design has a clean light feel with cream, lightwood and laminate. In general when you book a room at the PARKROYAL breakfast is included (but it is always worth checking when you book). The breakfast is impressive and very high quality. Keep an eye out for OFFERS at the PARKROYAL Penang.
The PARKROYAL is quite an old resort. Despite this, the resort itself is still well decorated and very well-maintained. Overall the PARKROYAL hotel is a fantastic choice if you are looking for a luxurious Batu Ferringhi hotel. Rooms at the PARKROYAL range between £75 – £230 per night.
Shangri-La Golden Sands
This is one of THE BEST value for money of the beach resorts in Penang. The Golden Sands Shangri-La is a classy beachfront resort enjoying a central location in Batu Ferringhi. This resort curves beautifully around an outdoor area with pools, grass, pavilions and social areas leading straight onto Batu Ferringhi Beach.
Rooms and suites at the Golden Sands are tastefully decorated with light colors, wooden furniture and colorful upholstery for a feel-good ambiance. The beds are very comfortable. The Golden Sands has all the facilities and amenities that you would expect in a high quality beach resort. A spa and wellness centre, a fitness suite, green outdoor spaces, sociable seating areas indoors and outdoors, 3 outdoor swimming pools and much more. Don’t miss the Sigi’s Beach Bar and Grill with its tempting selection of pizzas, pastas, fish and steak.
They also have great facilities for kids: One of the outdoor swimming pools is a dedicated kids pool. They also have an indoor play area and much needed babysitting services available for an additional charge. One of the main downsides of the Golden Sands hotel is that the rooms and suites only sleep up to two guests. The Shangri-La Golden Sands is a more affordable alternative to the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang. It is also located right next door to the Rasa Sayang. The Hard Rock Hotel

This is one of the best beach resorts in Penang for families. We love the Hard Rock theme and the excellent design at this resort. The Hard Rock is excellent value for money too!
The Hard Rock Hotel Penang has all the feel good vibes. Great music, great food and super cool staff. We particularly love the pool access suites and the dedicated family suite. Not many beach resorts in Penang offer this.
The Hard Rock Hotel Penang also has a luxurious spa offering a range of innovative and creative treatments. Check out the amazing spa bath and also try a music therapy massage. The Hard Rock also has an excellent restaurant. They serve a range of Western and Asian dishes including burgers, pizza, steak and much more. They also have a kids menu and highchairs.
The Hard Rock Hotel Penang has a genuinely fun and warm atmosphere. We absolutely love the outdoor swimming pool at the Hard Rock Hotel. They have an artificial beach, a swimming pool (shallow enough for toddlers), water slides and a wet play space with squirty things. The space seems to be very well designed for families with little ones. This makes for a more relaxing and enjoyable stay for the whole family. There is also a swim up bar called the Shack because beer always tastes best in your swimming kit.
This is one of the BEST beach resorts in Penang for families. This is one of the best value for money beach resorts in Penang. Expect to pay around £60 – £150 per night. AND keep your eye open for special discounted rates on Agoda.
Bayview Beach Resort
AND finally – the cheapest of the beach resorts in Penang – the Bayview is a good option if you are traveling on a smaller budget but still want the perks of beach resorts in Penang.
The Bayview hotel is a large tall beach resort. The height of this property affords some excellent views over Batu Ferringhi bay and the surrounding hills. The Bayview is located on the west side of Batu Ferringhi. This area is a bit quieter and more chilled out BUT it is slightly out of the way for all of the buzz of the main section of Batu Ferringhi.
Bayview beach resort has a good selection of amenities and services – consistent with an average 3 or 4 star hotel. There are two outdoor swimming pools, a fitness suite, nice outdoor green space with seating areas and there is also an indoor kids play room. Rooms are well furnished and comfortable with simple classic hotel-style interior designs (creams, laminates and glossy woods).
Ok, honest moment. We always want to give you the best advice we can. The Golden Sands is very similar to the Bayview Beach Resort in terms of size, hotel style and amenities – but Golden Sands is just nicer and more stylish. Given that both hotels offer rooms in a similar price range, we would recommend the Golden Sands unless you are snapping up a special offer at the Bayview.
