Council tax
There is a small council tax of a few ringgits per night per room for hotels in Penang. Some hotels will simply include this in the room rate, whereas other hotels may ask you to pay this additional fee when you check-in.
Keep your expectations in check
Penang does have some nice beaches – but they are not the best beaches you can find in the region. There are many jellyfish in the water and the water is not particularly clean or clear. If you are dreaming of a beach holiday in Malaysia consider Langkawi or some of the islands on the east coast (Redang, Perhentians or Tioman).
Double check if you want a seaview
Some of these Penang family hotels are located near the beach or by the ocean. In some cases you may specifically book a seaview room and still may not be allocated one. This can be very frustrating. We always recommend contacting the hotel after you have booked your room to check that you definitely will be allocated a seaview room. One exception to this is the Angsana hotel in Teluk Bahang. This hotel only has Seaview rooms available (they clearly know what people want!)
Do you want breakfast?
Remember to check whether breakfast is included with your room. Some hotels include this with every room booking of its hotels require you to pay additional charges for a room with breakfast. Agoda normally shows whether breakfast is included for the room you are booking. If there is an option of paying extra on the go to include breakfast this is normally cheaper than waiting until you are at the hotel to purchase breakfast.

The Hard Rock Hotel Penang has all the facilities and amenities that you would expect in a good 5 Star Hotel. They have a large outdoor swimming pool, The Rock spa offering a range of innovative and decadent treatments. They also have a Hard Rock Cafe which serves a range of international and Asian Cuisine. The Hard Rock Cafe serves things like burgers, milk shakes, ribs and salads plus local favorites. We also think you will love The Shack beach bar and the swim up pool bar.
What makes the hard rock hotel good for families?
The Hard Rock is genuinely one of THE BEST Penang family hotels around. Firstly, the fun and creative hard rock theme runs throughout the entire hotel including the rooms and suites. Secondly, we love the large outdoor pool and artificial beach area. The outdoor swimming pool has water slides, a wet play area with squirty things and inflatables.
The pool by the artificial beach is also pretty shallow At the Hard Rock Hotel Penang you can also get pool access suites. This means you can literally roll out of bed, straight into the swimming pool. Super convenient if you are on holiday with kids. The Hard Rock Hotel Penang also offers kids clubs, a babysitting service (for a small additional fee) and they have a dedicated games room for kids.
Also the Hard Rock Hotel is located by the beach and batu ferringhi. This is a great location for families. The beach here is beautiful and pretty clean. Nearby you can find a lot of local and international food available. Batu ferringhi is also close to teluk bahang which is home to the Penang National Park, the Escape Adventure Park and the Entopia butterfly and insect conservatory.

The PARKROYAL Penang Resort is a very impressive five-star hotel located in Batu Ferringhi. It has excellent family spaces including both indoor and outdoor play areas and outstanding facilities and amenities for families. The PARKROYAL Penang Resort is beautifully situated amongst tropical foliage and it has large landscape gardens, outdoor swimming pools.

Wheel of the large impressive water slides and kids play spaces. The PARKROYAL Penang Resort has an outdoor kids playground, and indoor kids’ Playroom (this one is very impressive), and a babysitting service available for a small additional charge.
We are also impressed with the wide range of activities and services available at the PARKROYAL Penang Resort. They offer everything from live music performances, movie nights, adventurous activities like cycling at, hiking, canoeing and much much more. Located in batu ferringhi by the beach, this is a great spot for families. From here it is very convenient and quick to go to Teluk Bahang, home to the Penang National Park, the Escape Adventure Park and Entopia. Batu ferringhi is also great for its range of local and international food options.

The PARKROYAL Penang Resort has a very wide range of rooms and suites available. The Family Seaview Two Bedroom suite offers space and comfort and can comfortably sleep up to 4 guests. This family suite is very well equipped with a large TV screen, work desk, balcony and a climate control system (perfect for the tropical heat). Also this is advertised as a “two bedroom suite” but it is worth being aware that it does not have two separate private rooms. Rather the rooms are separated by a divider screen (you can see throughout). The rooms and Suites at the PARKROYAL Penang Resort have laminate floors, perfect to wipe up baby leaks.
The largest suites can accommodate up to 6 people with additional beds. They can also add free cots (0-2 years old) or extra beds (RM130 per night). Children age 13 years or older are charged as adults at this property.

This is one of the more expensive Penang family hotels. However, it is a very impressive luxurious five-star hotel in a great location. The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton has all of the facilities and amenities that you would hope for an excellent 5-star Hotel.
What makes the DoubleTree Resort good for families?
The DoubleTree Resort is a very high end hotel with excellent staff, services and amenities. Rooms and Suites are spacious and comfortable offering excellent accommodation for families. The DoubleTree Resort an outdoor kids playground, an indoor playroom, board games and puzzles.
They also offer at babysitting service for an additional charge. The DoubleTree also have to outdoor swimming pools including a kids swimming pool with toys. The DoubleTree Resort is also located right by Miami Beach on the north coast of Penang. This is a very beautiful and pretty quiet Beach.
The DoubleTree Resort is on the Coast Road between Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi. There is a bus route on this road so it is very easy to take buses to Batu Ferringhi, Teluk Bahang and Georgetown (in the other direction). The main disadvantage of the DoubleTree Resort is the lack of local street food and shops in the immediate area.

The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton is uniquely able to accommodate very large families. The two-bedroom family suite is able to accommodate a family of 5; with an extra large double bed, two single beds and an additional extra bed available upon request. The Ascott Gurney Penang is also in a great location for families. The gurney district of Penang is well known for its cosmopolitan shopping malls, international restaurants and coffee shops. It is also a great place for street food and there is plenty of public transport connecting Gurney with Georgetown and batu ferringhi.

The two-bedroom Premier suite is the best option for families at the Ascot gurney Penang. The two-bedroom Premier suite has one extra large double bed and 2 single beds and can accommodate up to 4 people. The two-bedroom Premier suite also has a small kitchen and bathroom with a bathtub that has a beautiful Seaview and large screen TVs.
The two-bedroom Premier suite at the Ascot gurney Penang is very well designed with black out blinds and carpeted bedrooms. One of the disadvantages of the Ascott Gurney Penang is that no cots or extra beds are available.

What makes the Rasa Motel good for families?
Depending on your travel goals, the motel provides good cheap accommodation leaving you with more money for more travel and experiences. So if you are happy to just get your hair’s down and see your accommodation as a landing place, the Rasa motel is the best option for you. The Rasa motel is also located in batu ferringhi which is an excellent place for families. Batu ferringhi has a wide variety of local and international food available, a great Beach, coffee shops and public transport connecting it to other parts of Penang.
