Can you stay on Bottle Beach in Koh Phangan?

Yes, it is possible to stay on Bottle Beach Koh Phangan. Bottle Beach has a number of hotels and guest houses along the beachfront. Expect to pay around £15 per night. The resorts are nice but not luxurious. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay on Bottle Beach, check out Bottle Beach 1 Resort – the Grand Deluxe Triple Bungalow is pretty nice. There are also cafes and restaurants serving drinks and a range of foods. Prices on Bottle Beach Koh Phangan are a little higher than average prices on the island. Expect to pay around 80 – 100 baht for a shake and 100-200 baht for most dishes.

1 Trek to Bottle Beach from Haad Khom carpark

One of the most intrepid ways to get to Bottle Beach Koh Phangan is to trek from Haad Khom car park. We have included the car park on the map. It is possible to drive all the way to this car park on a motorbike. There are a few steep hills but the road is well pathed. The trek is around 2km and relatively challenging due to the steep jungle hill and rocky terrain. When you get to the Haad Khom carpark, walk a short distance along the rough road looking out for a turning on the right.

The route follows a small jungle path up a hill and then down to bottle beach. There are a few beautiful viewpoints along the way where the jungle clears and you can see over the ocean. The trekking route to Bottle Beach is relatively easy to follow. Keep an eye out for the markings on rocks and trees (yellow and blue). The trek from Haad Khom car park to Bottle Beach will take around 1-2 hours depending on your pace and rest time.
If you plan to trek to Bottle Beach Koh Phangan we recommend coming prepared. Wear good hiking shoes (trainers rather than flip flops), wear light loose fitting clothing, remember to bring sunscreen (factor 50) and mosquito repellant. Bring plenty of water and snacks for the trek.
When you get to Bottle Beach there are several cafes and restaurants to grab a refreshing drink. You can also swim at Bottle Beach (although we don’t recommend swimming in rough waters or if the red flags are up). To get back from bottle beach to the Haad Khom car park, you can either walk back along the same route. Alternatively it is possible to take a taxi boat from Bottle Beach to Haad Khom beach. The boats leave roughly every hour and boat drivers charge a standard fee of 150 baht per person. It is easy to find the drivers waiting along the beach. Boats normally drop you off at the east side of Haad Khom beach. From here you can trek back up to the road through the Coconut Beach Bungalows resort. At the road turn left and walk back up to the Haad Khom car park. The walk from Haad Khom beach to the car park will take around 10 minutes at a steady pace.
There is a second longer route that follows the coast around as well.
2 Take a boat to Bottle Beachfrom Haad Khom beach

The most enjoyable way to get to Bottle Beach Koh Phangan is to take a taxi boat from either Chaloklum (east of the main pier) or from the east side of Haad Khom Beach. In both cases the price should be around 150 baht per person each way (kids generally go free but check with the driver before agreeing on the trip). We have marked the locations of the taxi boat stops on the map. You may need to wait for a boat. Boats tend to wait on Bottle Beach and then travel back to Chaloklum and Haad Khom approximately every hour.

The taxi boats tend to be small boats that can take around 8-10 people. The boat journey follows the north coast around allowing you to enjoy some epic scenery. The journey takes around 15 minutes and boat drivers generally speak very good English.

Don’t worry about arranging your return trip. It is very easy to find a taxi boat at Bottle Beach – they tend to wait in this area and depart roughly every hour. The price is fixed at 150 baht per person each way and the drivers seem to be very unwilling to barter.
3 Travel by road to Bottle Beach
It is possible to get to Bottle Beach Koh Phangan by road. Before you read on: the road route to Bottle Beach is not suitable for a small runaround scooter bike. You would need a proper off road vehicle. Also small cars would not be suitable, we recommend a large 4 wheel drive car. Furthermore, you cannot get to Bottle Beach by any roads directly from Chaloklum (north of the island).
To get to Bottle Beach Koh Phangan by road, you have to approach bottle beach from the south of Koh Phangan (take the road that leads north from the Ban Tai district). Follow the road up past Rhetro Mountain and through the Than Sadet National Park. There is an unpaved road that leads through the hills to Bottle Beach. It would be possible to do this route by a suitable taxi – however, this is a pretty expensive way to do it.
What is the cheapest way to get to Bottle Beach?

The cheapest way to get to Bottle Beach Koh Phangan is to use a motorbike to get to the Haad Khom carpark and then trek to Bottle Beach. Motorbike rental in Koh Phangan costs around 150- 200 baht per day (you can negotiate better deals for longer term rental). Petrol is pretty cheap costing around 40 – 50 baht per liter.

The viewpoint at Bottle Beach Koh Phangan

The viewpoint at Bottle Beach Koh Phangan is located high on a hill to the east of Bottle Beach. It takes approximately 40 minutes to trek up to the viewpoint from Bottle Beach. The trek is pretty steep. At the end of the trek you need to scale along the side of some rocks to get to the viewpoint. Take care as there are some big drops in the area. If you plan to visit Bottle Beach viewpoint we recommend being well prepared: Bring plenty of water and snacks. Wear light loose fitting clothing and good hiking shoes (trainers recommended). The walk itself is under trees and not too exposed but the viewpoint is very exposed so consider sun protection.
The viewpoint affords a breathtaking view of the ocean, jungle hills and Bottle Beach.
The route to Bottle Beach viewpoint: Rough guide
The only way to get to the impressive Bottle Beach viewpoint is to trek. From Bottle Beach Find the restaurant called “Bottle Beach 2” (this is along the middle section of the beach slightly to the east side of the beach). There is a dusty road leading back inland. Walk a few hundred meters along this road and then turn left. Follow the road up a short distance and look out for a turning on the right to a small jungle trail. It is not super obvious but the route is signed. Follow the jungle trail up the hill.
