What are the best Thai dishes for kids?

Phuket holiday pad thai

What if you are no where near the best Phuket restaurants with kids? Thai people love their spice. This can make it tricky to find good kid-friendly food – especially if there are no western food joints nearby. The good news is, there are some very common Thai dishes which are great for kids. All of these dishes can be found in most places around Thailand are are pretty common.

Fried rice – served in almost all restaurants, fried rice is rarely spicy and normally includes egg, veggies, seafood or chicken (average price 50 baht)

Omelettes – most places have omelettes on the menu and these are not spicy (average price 40 baht)

Pad Thai – In Thailand you will always be a few meters from a good Pad Thai! This is a classic dish in Thailand of fried noodles, egg, veggies and bean sprouts in a sweet sauce. Most places serve Pad Thai so it is easy to find. Often garnished with peanuts and lime. Pad Thai is often a little bit spicy so you need to specify not spicy when you order this one (average price 50 baht)

Tom Kha soup – Tom Kha soup is a delicious coconut soup normally including veggies, chicken or seafood and can be found fairly commonly around Thailand. Some mild spices are used to flavour the soup (lemongrass and galangal) and they sometimes add chilli – so you need to request “not spicy” when you order this. What are the best Phuket restaurants with kids?

1 Three Monkeys canopy restaurant (Phuket)

One of the best Phuket restaurants with kids for ambiance and style.

Phuket with kids three monkeys

The Three Monkeys restaurant is beautifully nestled into the jungle canopy on a hill to the west of Phuket town. Viewing decks and platforms afford an excellent view of the jungle and Phuket. The restaurant has a calm, natural ambiance. We love the way the restaurant is designed around the jungle with trees literally growing through the decking. Fairy lights, wooden walkways and rustic natural designs make the Three Monkeys restaurant feel like a magical treehouse wonderland.

This restaurant is on the more expensive side – but is well worth it for the experience. They have baby chairs and a pretty good kids menu. Children do need to be carefully supervised at the Three Monkeys restaurant – especially younger children. There are some area where kids could climb up the safety railings. They also have some canopy viewing nets – which do not have any safety rails at the end. Again these are not suitable for younger children.

Approximate prices: Most dishes range from 150 baht to 500 baht (around £3 – £10 or $4 – 13)

Kamlim Rimlay is a local seafood BBQ restaurant located on the beachfront to the north of Patong. We love this place for its unique character, amazing food and proximity to a beach. Kalim Rimlay serve fresh delicious BBQ seafood for excellent local prices. They have reclined Thai style bamboo seating and the restaurant is located right next to a beautiful but rocky beach.

Kalim Rimlay do not have baby chairs, a kids menu or baby changing facilities. But we think, for the right family, this is a great place for kids. The beach provides a fun play space, and the seating is comfortable and unique. The seafood is not spiced and you can also order sticky rice and amazing cold shakes. If you’re not bothered about the facilities this is a great spot for families to enjoy a meal in a stunning location.

6 Hash Burger (Kata bay)

This one of the Phuket restaurants with kids for delicious comfort food.

From super healthy to super decadent! The name may be a little sus but don’t worry you wont find any Hash in their food… it will make you very happy though. Hash burger is located in Kata bay and has an excellent menu of high calorie western comfort food. We particularly recommend the burgers for their size, freshness and overall quality. Fresh bread, crisp salad, tangy sauces, melted cheese… ok sorry I am getting carried away now. Hash Burger also have a range of nibbles suitable for kids and they have worked hard to develop their menu and dishes.

Hash Burgers may well be some of the best burgers that you can buy in Phuket (this is no ad – we have nothing to gain here). The Hash burger cafe has a small seating area and they do have the all important baby chair too.

Hash Burger is linked to the Beach Boutique House hotel – if you stay at the hotel you can actually get these amazing burgers delivered to your room! Decadence in style!

Why is Hash Burger good for families with kids? Great comfort food menu and a baby chair

7 Suan Lung Rong Waterfall cafe (Karon Bay)

This one of the Phuket restaurants with kids for a unique experience.

This is a local hidden gem. We aren’t recommending this place for baby chairs and family amenities. What makes this place special for families is the seating area in a river!  You read that right. You can sit at a table in a small river by landscaped waterfalls. Kids can paddle, play and splash as you wait for your food and drinks. They serve a selection of shakes and a few dishes. The menu is quite small, and the food is mostly Thai in style – although they do offer French Fries on the menu. We have recommended this place for the unique location and paddling opportunities for kids. We definitely recommend some mosquito repellant at this spot (actually they were kindly able to lend us some- but worth bringing your own)

Approximate price: Drinks are around 50 baht and food costs around 100 baht per dish
