Top tips for booking Phuket resorts for families
Here are a few TOP TIPS and things to watch out for with Phuket hotels and resorts:
- Book Phuket resorts for families early to avoid disappointment. Some of the more popular resorts book up months in advance – especially in high season. Get in there early.
- Several hotels and resorts in Phuket are pinned in the wrong location on Google Maps. Watch out for this – use our map to help you find the right hotel!
- Many hotels in Phuket have very similar names so it can be confusing. We have tried to let you know in this article where there may be confusion due to hotels with similar names. To avoid mistakes use our links and map.
- Phuket is bigger than it looks on a map(!) Travelling up and down Phuket can take several hours and actually costs quite a bit. Work out what you want to see and do in Phuket and pick a location that works with your itinerary. In General, there is more to do in the south of Phuket.
- Don’t presume that every beach in Phuket is amazing. Just because your resort is near a beach this does not guarantee soft, clean golden sands and crystal clear waters. We have made a super helpful guide on the BEST Phuket Beaches for families.
- Always choose a fully refundable policy – this is especially important with the uncertainty of travel at present. Ideally the later they allow cancellations the better.
- Not all facilities and services will necessarily be available to every room type. So you can end up booking a room and then be told you cannot use a facility or service. This can feel very frustrating – so if there is a facility that attracts you (e.g. an infinity pool or members lounge) – check with the hotel that it is included with your room type.
- Not all of the booking options include breakfast – if you want breakfast to be included with your booking, make sure this is listed on the option that you pay for.
What are the best areas to stay in Phuket for families?

The best areas to stay depend on what you are looking for. Here is a general guide to the best areas for different types of activities:
What are you looking for? | Best areas |

Nice clean, quiet, calm chilled beaches | Panwa cape |
Watersports, beaches and trekking | Kata, Nai Harn and Rawai |
Culture, temples and local life | Chalong, Kathu, Phuket town and Old town |
Adventure activities and outdoor pursuits | Kathu and Kata |
Meeting people – good vibes | Old town, Rawai, Nai Harn, Kata and Patong |
You will notice several of our Phuket family resorts are located in Bang Tao and at Mai Khao (northwest Phuket). Bang Tao is not really a Phuket town but is more of a complex of resorts and inland lakes. It is not a great spot for local food and bars. There are not many activities in these areas of Phuket. Nearby attractions: Bang Tao Beach, Banana Beach and waterfall. Blue Tree lagoon and adventure village is located in the Bang Tao area. Ton Sai waterfall is not too far away.
Honourable mentions
We wanted to give a couple of honourable mentions. Both of these places have been noted for their great family activities and facilities. But sadly neither of these resorts makes the list for the BEST Phuket Resorts for families:
Splash Beach Resort (Maikhao Phuket)
You may see that some guides recommend the Splash Beach Resort for families. And we can see why. It is pretty awesome. But we don’t think this compares with the other resorts in this article. Splash beach can be noisy due to the airport. It may be novel to have planes flying so nearby – but this could also detract from guests’ experience. Also, despite advertising the amazing Splash Jungle water park they do not include complimentary water park entry for guests. So if you’re interested in the waterpark you may as well stay at your preferred accommodation and take a day trip here.
Graceland Resort and Spa (Patong)
Again this is a great 5 star resort for families which even includes a bowling alley (this is totally unique in Phuket as far as we can tell). Located in Patong this is a top location in Phuket for nightlife and good vibes. However, due to the popular location this resort can get busy and intense at times. Also some guests have reported rude treatment from the staff and staff not understanding English fully. So saldy, although this is a great choice for families, Graceland hasn’t quite made the list for us.
We will only recommend resorts and hotels which are genuinely excellent. We’re totally open to things changing over time so if you’re looking for Phuket Resorts for families keep an eye on these guys too.
